Hi need some experiences of citalopram. I've been on 5mg for 2 weeks now 2 days on 10mg. Feeling a lot hotter than usual!!! I know it's hot weather at the moment but it's not that. My skin isn't hot it's like heat inside my body?? Not sweating more. Not hot flushes either. Anyone had this when starting and did it go? X

Hi ceetee, I was only prescribed citalopram yesterday but on reading the leaflet it did say one of the main side effects is sweating.
I'm not sure wether to take them are not, my Gp has prescribed them for anxiety , only a short course and says they aren't addictive but the leaflet says it can take up to six weeks to work.

How are you getting on, if you don't mind me asking

I'm not taking Citalopram but I've been on Tamoxifen (breast cancer prevention) for a year and still have 4 more years to go. It's like someone's turned up my internal body temperature by 20 degrees so I feel your pain OP. I washed my car by hand earlier today and the sweat was running down my face. Quite awful as externally I didn't even feel hot. I used to live in Asia and loved the heat so I don't recognise this sweaty, always hot person I've become on these drugs. I hate it and it really affects my day-to-day life. But it will be worth it if it prevents me getting breast cancer (I'm high risk due to my family history). You really have my sympathy - but stick with the Citalopram as it will help your mood and the side effects will wear off after a month or so (I've taken it in the past).

Hi ceetee perhaps you're right. I'm on 40 mg and having constant sweats and I started thinking I was early peri menopause Blush

Thanks for your replies. Bimbobaggins - it's been ok. I took it v slowly upping the dose as sensitive to these meds. I've tried quite a few this year due to post natal depression and this has by far been the most tolerable. I'd say it's worth trying. A lot of people are lucky and have zero side effects. Some have a few, some have loads. But it may just be the key to making life easier. Let me know how you get on and good luck.
Hundred miles- I heard tamoxifen can do that. Sorry you're having to go through this, it seems so unfair given the reason you're taking it. Can you take an ssri with that drug to combat hot flushes? I don't know. I read a few bits on herbal remedies too. Really hope you find a way through. Thankyou for your reassurance and I hope the heat goes for me in time xx

Kissingaprince - may well be the citalopram! I've got a couple of friends on sertraline who find it makes them sweat a lot. Mines more heat, feel like I'm burning up inside! Hoping it wears off x
