First session tomorrow and excited/curious about how it will help with my anxiety and panic attacks. Its all increased slightly over the last few days but I'm pre menstrual and as also perimemopausal my mood has plummeted so trying to keep that in mind. I've definitely been doing more negative what if thinking!!! If it's not one thing it's you're hormones 😂😂😂. Let's hope I have a positive session

Found it really helped for me. I didn't realise at first how much it helped!

Good luck x

Hi Koalas - great name! My son lives in Sydney and says I should be more koala like and chilled!!! I had a dreadful night - Panic attack just before bed and kept waking up. One thing I was thinking was how effective 6 weeks of 30 mins is really going to be?

Sorry you had such a bad night. I think you may be surprised how effective the sessions are (I hope so anyway!). Its a gradual improvement but I did my CBT over the phone. I had four sessions last year (may have been 6, can't remember) to help with my anxiety and post natal depression. I did have panic attacks but I think my issues were on the milder end of the spectrum so you may find you need a bit of help depending on the severity. You do have to put work into it but honestly it was the best thing I could have done. And once you have the techniques you can apply them whenever you feel yourself struggling.

Try not to worry, just remember it will take time and its all to help you. And you never know, this time in June you could be chilled as a Koala ;-)

Thanks Koala. I am having huge issues with hormones at the moment too and they aren't helping! Had two cracking weeks but last few days pre period (I think) I've felt dreadful. Am ringing a private menopause clinic today. I think had I gone last week I may have felt more positive!

I'm interested to hear how you're doing. I'm suffering from panic attacks and anxiety too and think they're probably hormone related. Feel sure I'm peri-menopausal but Dr says at 46 I'm too young???
Did you have anxiety issues previously? Hopefully the CBT will help - it's very popular...

Joto369 · 04/04/2017 09:28

Hi gleegeek. Your Dr is talking twaddle! I'm 48 but have noticed a marked increase ii.n anxiety (Yes I did have it before but not to this level and very often hormonal) awful mood swings, aching and painful joints, dry eyes etc. I'm find the site menopause matters invaluable especially the support forum cx

Thanks joto . Yes I'm going to try to see a different doctor once another health issue is sorted out thanks for the menopause matters website - really useful.
How are you feeling a couple of days after the CBT? Hopefully you're empowered?!

Joto369 · 05/04/2017 12:33

Honestly no! I've had two awful days if anxiety low mood and spaced out caused by hormones. Period arrived today but still feel wired. It's difficult to challenge anything when your head is full of fog 😂😂😂😂

I'm sorrySad it's rubbish isn't it? I'm having a rare few 'steady' days - period is due - and then I know I'll be back on the hormone roller coaster. No advice but commiseration!

Just wanted to let you know that CBT helped me become my old self again, I did it for a few months and my weekly sessions lasted a few hours.

I no longer suffer panick attacks and I am much better at dealing with my anxiety. I kept a notebook of all my sessions. When I am having a particularly difficult few days, I go back to the techniques I learnt and I can steady myself in a few days.

I really hope your sessions go well

Aria2015 · 05/04/2017 22:27

CBT was great for me. At first I felt worse before I felt better though but I understand that's quite common. It's given me coping skills that I still use today. Just really simple techniques to turn things around and not let yourself get sucked into negative thinking. Good luck!!

A few months sounds good! I'm not seeing him til 26 April - well it would have been but I have a private appointment with a menopause specialist so I'll have to rearrange. Its 30 mins fortnightly for another 5 sessions. I've printed some stuff off the net instead which is probably the same stuff and is good reading 😊
