It does sound like a very long wait. Are you waiting for some kind of counselling?

lulumama · 18/02/2007 21:08

yes...definitely....3 months is the usual wait...8 months sounds way too long.....i;d call tomorrow

DimpledThighs · 18/02/2007 21:08

counselling? I know services are being cut backa nd waiting lists seem to be growing longer and longer.

Are you feeling any worse? Can you revisit GP?

Beauregard · 18/02/2007 21:11

Yes
What annoys me is that i have managed to pick myself off 'the floor'and returned to work, started making positive changes in my life and Ihave done that alone ,but for all they know i could be curled up in a corner or worse.

I was told that i would need intensive councelling with a psychologist.

I would go back to the gp if I were you.
I was put down for counselling a few months back & told there was a waiting list. I went back to the doctors just after Christmas because I was feeling so awful, and within a week I had received a letter from the counsellor to say they could fit me in for my first session the following week!
Defintely worth chasing it up again!

pinkchampagne · 18/02/2007 21:15

I am on my 3rd round of NHS counselling & I've never waited more than a couple of months.

Beauregard · 18/02/2007 21:18

I had an assessment with the consultant psychologist in June .
To be honest i am just starting to think along the lines of screw them
The Mental Health service failed my sister(r.i.p)

Oh
Please call your GP tomorrow.

pinkchampagne · 18/02/2007 21:22

That's so sad, I'm sorry about your sister.
I can understand you feeling angry about this, as it does sound a very long wait. Get straight onto your GP tomorrow & chase it up.

Beauregard · 18/02/2007 21:24

Whats really pissing me off(sorry for language)is that they are well aware of my history and issues that i have with mental health care etc and they treat me like this.

OP posts:
Beauregard · 18/02/2007 21:25

I really dont think i can be bothered now.
I have got myself over the worst of it again

pinkchampagne · 18/02/2007 21:29

You sound like you could do with the support right now & you are entitled to it.
Phone them up tomorrow & see if you can get some kind of explanation as to why it has been so long.
8 months is a very long time to have to wait! Did they give you any idea of the waiting list at the time?

pinkbubble · 18/02/2007 21:32

pelvicfloornomore, I plucked up courage and saw someone in Feb and eventually got the app for Nov, Im now on my 7th app out of 12! unfortunately I dont think there are enough councillors

Beauregard · 18/02/2007 21:32

Yes she suggested a waiting time of 3-4months

OP posts:
pinkchampagne · 18/02/2007 21:35

Well then I'd definitely get back to them, as it's obviously gone way over what they stated. The NHS can be pretty useless!

pinkbubble · 18/02/2007 21:40

In the summer I was having a really tough time and plucked up courage to ring to see where I was, I was told probably Oct- IMO it stinks you shouldnt have to wait, now Ive got it im frightened of it going just incase I have to wait 9mths again! Its worth phoning also my GP put in a couple of reminders, dont know if that helped but when I had my first app she did apologise for such a long wait! Which County are you from- Im in Kent dont know if different counties have different times!

pinkbubble · 18/02/2007 21:41

I must admit I did keep on going to GP and badgering!

Beauregard · 18/02/2007 21:45

Hope you are finding the councelling useful/helpful though?but i have to agree that if i was feeling more vunerable then i would probably thinking the same as you.
Im in worcestershire.

I have found the councilling really useful, I was one of those people who couldnt cope when anyone was talking/being sick, so far I have coped with 2DC sickness bug and 1DC with the flu being sick for days! I have to admit I have had lots of homework which I have done and I would recommend this lady to anyone-she listens, never critises, always turns what I have said into a positive. A pure NATURAL, I honestly dont want to stop seeing her, wish I could have her on my shoulder, when DC were being ill, I could actually picture in my mind what I thought she would be saying!

Beauregard · 18/02/2007 21:55

Oh she sounds great,im so glad for you.
