I am a nervous wreck in social situations. I shake, can't speak properly (or can't seem to get my words out) sweat, have palpitations, and there doesnt seem to be any reason for it. I always feel I am in some kind of danger or someone is going to hurt me in some way and I don't know why. I know most people wouldn't hurt anyone so why do I fee like this?

Been feeling like this since my DD's birth 4 years ago but never did anything about it. I have been on AD for 3 months, on Citalopram 20mg . Helps a bit but still feel anxious. What AD's are the best for this type of anxiety?

i don't have any advice about ADs, but it sounds like counselling could help you get to the root of the problem. good luck

am sure someone else will have something to add soon.

I am currently being treated for anxiety - not social anxiety disorder more generalised but I completely recognise your feeling of danger. When I am anxious I always have a feeling of impending doom, that something terrible is going to happen but I don't know what. I think it is just a symptom of the anxiety the same as the more obvious physical symptoms like palpatations, dry mouth etc. I think all the adrenaline pumping around your body does slightly alter your thinking. I would try not to focus on it too much but just see it as a symptom of anxiety that will disappear as your anxiety goes.

I am on escitalopram and it took a while but noticed a big difference after 6 weeks. I would discuss your ads with gp. They might suggest upping the dose or changing ad. From reading these pages it seems some ads suit some people better than others and you need to find the one that is right for you.

Agree with noonar that counselling would help. Has your gp mentioned this? CBT could be really useful. There is a way forward and definately think a trip to gp would be a good place to start. Good luck.

Me too! I suffer anxiety in social situations. I don't get palpitations all the time though, only if say, someone asks me a question and 10 people are looking at me to answer, then I will.

My main prob is sweating and shaking although my shakes have disappeared since being on AD's i still have the sweats though .

I totally sympathise.
