I am worried about DH. He has always been a bit 'quirky'. I often wondered if he has Aspergers but more recently i think he has PPD.
I know I shouldn't diagnose as I am not a professional but his behaviour worries me and don't know what to do.
We have been together for 20 years and have 3 DC. He has always been like this. By this I mean, thinks people talking about him behind his back, blanking him in the street puposefully, making rude signs behind his back. He has few friends. Has about 3 really close male friends, 2 of whom live miles away so seldom sees them. Has no group of men to socialise with. The pattern is that he makes friends but eventually he begins to say they are talking about him, or they have been bullying towards him and the friendship fizzles out.
This impacts on me as he dislikes most of my friends, won't socialise with them. He even finds the school run a nightmare...always comes back saying people staring at him. He just can't seem to navigate social situations.
It's really getting me down and has been for years. I have tried to talk to him about it but it's pointless. He is paranoid so just reckons he is right. If I try and give him an alternate view or suggest he misunderstood he gets annoyed.
Sometimes he gets really down about this and gets angry. Feels he is somehow a victim. He self medicates by drinking too much occasionally which fuels his feelings more. He goes on about thinks that happened in his past that he feels people are still talking about. Stupid stuff that happened 30 years ago....people round here didn't even know him then but he still thinks they are gossiping.
What can I do? He needs CBT or something. Will never get him to see someone.
