Good childhood?

Does anyone else have mental health problems but had a lovely childhood?

I started with mental health issues when I was a young teen, and over the years have been variously diagnosed with depression, generalised anxiety, social anxiety, Aspergers and Borderline Personality Disorder. Not all at the same time! By different psychiatrists at different times, sometimes years apart.

Reading about other people with mental health issues, both on here and elsewhere, the vast majority seem to have had some degree of traumatic childhood. But I don't. I had a wonderful childhood, love both my parents dearly and they're even still together! I've never suffered from any form of abuse, ever.

I guess I feel a bit like a fraud.

Has anybody got any thoughts?

Then I'd say your current mh problems are more symptomatic of your ASD not being 'managed' iyswim. Support for ASD is terrible, but you've been tested and diagnosed. Seriously with dd, I saw a child psych for a year who thought I had it completely wrong. I am so bitter and upset that it took 1 hour in front if a proper child ASD qualified psych for them to suggest testing.

For children, I know that you have a right to a second referral from a gp, not sure how it works with adults. But could your gp refer you appropriately.

In this day and age, a child's ASD diagnosis is often discredited also. I can't believe any hcp worth their salt would discount your official diagnosis. Fwiw, I have no problem with a label. Without a label, my beautiful daughter was not getting the right support and trying to kill herself at age 6. Just 6....
