Hi all. I've just joined MN as I've been reading some of the discussions, and the support you guys give each other is fab. I've got a 10 month old DS, and am so lucky to have him, but I feel so depressed. I was diagnosed with PND 3 months ago, but if I'm honest I started feeling depressed a few years ago, things have just been escalating ever since. I've had 2 sessions with a counsellor, 1st one was OK but 2nd I'm not so sure. I don't feel like anyone is taking me seriously. I have no support network whatsoever, DH is unsupportive, parents no longer around and so-called friends have got fed-up with me. Anyone got any advice on how to get through this? TIA!

Welcome to MN. Are you taking any ADs ? Have you been back to the GP and told him how things are ?
How do you get on with HV ?
Sorry lots of questions but maybe a bit more back ground as to how you think this all started.

Just been prescribed Citalopram, but really don't want to take them, don't like taking any kind of drugs. GP not v helpful, both him and HV say counselling will sort things out, and maybe it will, but with one session every 4 weeks and max of 6 on NHS, it's going to take a while!

Hi Tezzla

i have been where you are now, it does get better

take the ADs, i used to not like taking them but i thought if i had been presribed antibiotics to make me well if i had an infection, i would take them,..so why not ADs,

within a couple of weeks, they should help stabilise your mood

counselling is good, but weekly is preferable..if you can afford to go privately to see someone regularly, it is worth it

also, if you need a shoulder to cry on, you can call the Samaritans, they are excellent at supporting people and will be there anytime you need them

your friends probably don;t know what to say, and don;t know how to help....

try reading about depression, anything by Dorothy Rowe is excellent , also, and there is lots of support on MN!

hi Tezzla

Sorry you are feeling down and feeling unsupported ...My DS is 5 months and I have been or am where you are and only recently asked for help when things got so bad I felt i couldn't face things anymore. A mix of therapy and AD's re helping...I know there is a big stigma attached to AD's but I agree with lulumama and think i would take medicine for other ailments so why not for depression. It is a tough decision and one only you can make. If the doctor has prescribed AD's they will likely help...if it is the correct dosage. Reaching out is the first step and try the samaritans...sometimes just talking helps. Good luck.
