If anyone remembers, my DS turned our lives upside down back in March with a suicide attempt and was diagnosed with depression. We had some rocky times but he is now seeing a private psychologist (CAMHS proved to be very frustrating as he had about 5 assessments before they even started talking about a treatment plan Angry but I understand, to some degree) and has made huge leaps of improvement.

This summer he sat his GCSEs and, on occasion, we weren't sure we'd even get him to an exam. Fortunately for him, he is very able academically so despite minimal revision, he got 4A* and 8As ShockSmile!!

We, and those 'in the know' are incredibly proud not only of his achievement but also with the change in his attitude and approach. He still sometimes misreads what is normal teenage stuff - tiredness, feeling misunderstood, etc. - but we are here to help him navigate those emotions. We are aware the 'problem' isn't solved but we are on the right path for it to be manageable.

Finally, (told you it was a proud post!) we had a fabulous family holiday for the first time in 7 years and will all treasure those shared memories and experiences. It achieved our main goal - to come together as a more cohesive family unit.

Anyway, this post is also to show those people out there that are struggling that corners can be turned, time can make a difference and the rewards for the hard work outweigh most things!

Take care, peeps!

That's really good news, congratulations to your DS.

Sometimes when times are really hard it can feel like there's no light at the end of the tunnel. I'm sure your post will bring hope to others x

Lovely to read! There can be light at the end of the dark tunnel. My DD has suffered horrible anxiety and self harmed for years. Apparently she wasn't 'bad' enough for CAHMS. She took an overdose once (that I know of).
Anyway like you this has good news. She got ABB in her A levels and is starting a degree in mental health nursing (oh yes!!) next week. My little girl is back, along with her fun, endless chatter and confidence.
Good luck OP and your son x
