Sick of money

We're screwed

Not majorly, and its only for a few months, but its Christmas and I'm sick of worrying

Its all my fault because I'm in charge of money and I haven't been very restrained .

The car died and I was liking the idea of no car until about Feb - get us through the new year with no extra petrol, tax insurance etc.

PIL gave us a car - which I know is lovely and I really am grateful, but I have to tax it NOW and I have no money until the end of the month (when tax was due), got charged £20 for having to cancel old policy, and the new one is £20 more than the old one for the first month, so thats another £40 gone now when we already have nothing until at least 12th.

I'm set up to sell nappies, but can't find any clients

DH earned money carving pumpkins which I had promised him was his, but that has been spent already.

Just feeling low.

(((HUGS)))

I think I need to sell some nappies, too.

DumbledoresGirl · 08/11/2006 11:44

I am soooo there with you Flamesparrow. It is a dreadful weight to have hanging over you every day isn't it?

I am no good at selling techniques but are you sure there are no avenues you have left unexplored re finding clients?

SurferChick · 08/11/2006 11:45

Christmas is a bad time of the year when you have no money. I am childmider trying to make a living which is not working. I feel as though I am letting my partner down as he works all day whilst I am at home with babes and we still dont have enough money to live. I just feel usless. I wish there was an easy answer, I just take each day at a time and try to smile every morning.

Jelley · 08/11/2006 11:45

No help here, but lots of sympathy.
I'll recommend you as a nappy seller.

We're currently living on dd1s savings, as dps wages disappeared into the ether whenI paid them into the bank last week.

Flamesparrow · 08/11/2006 11:45

There are lots but the bloody kids are inconsiderate and keep getting ill so I can't do em

SurferChick · 08/11/2006 11:47

What is a nappy seller? Sounds a daft question I know but are they the non disposable types?

Quootiepie · 08/11/2006 11:48

oh ((hugs)) DH and I have just been having a conversation about money We are getting through an awful amount. Maybe have a good clearout for Ebay? I think i am going to have to...

Flamesparrow · 08/11/2006 11:51

Yes, cloth nappies. Where you can't tend to get them in rl shops, you need to buy them online or through a rl agent like me

Can you ring round some of your local GP surgeries, speak to the Health Visitors and see if they would be prepared to hand out a leaflet about your nappies to see if you can pick up some business that way ? Or maybe you could do a small talk to some of the post natal groups. Could you maybe see about getting some coverage in one of the local papers, you could write a press release and see if that gets you somewhere.

SparklyGothKat · 08/11/2006 12:01

I am screwed too this month. The cheques I wrote in AUGUST for the kid's playscheme all came out last week which put us totally over our overdraft, the bank charged us £30 twice and I have had to borrow money to feed us.
I had to sell some gig tickets that we were going to on sunday to help us out. Luckily I managed to get double what I paid for them, so it will help us out hugely...

Flamesparrow · 08/11/2006 12:06

The local paper is my next option - I sent letters to GP surgeries but makesachange tells me I am better off to actually go and see them because they don't have time to look at the letters, so that is the plan next week (making decent flyers this weekend).

We've got a new recycling system set up, and I am thinking something decent sent to the local papers that promotes cloth and incorporates the recycling is more likely to get printed.

Going in is a good idea I think and if you can't get to see the HV, sweet talk the practice manager if you can. Am I right in thinking you are in Bournemouth ? If so as well as the Echo etc try the Community Mag which does Wimborne, Merley, Ferndown etc, they are quite into recycling and green issues etc. Liz Turner would probably be the person to contact there. Also, drop a leaflet off at Honeybrook in the shop, I'm sure they will put one up for you, there often loads of small children up there, and I wonder if there is anywhere to display notices at Moors Valley ?

Another thought, do the local councils do a money back thing for people using cloth ? You could speak to the environmental person or whoever at Bournemouth and there will be one in East Dorset too I think.

Flamesparrow · 08/11/2006 12:29

Been emailing the council already - they assure me that they are in talks for an incentive next year... guess who i'll be contacting on Jan 1st

You are a star KP - I'll get a list and start contacting everyone.

We had a bit of a nightmare just over a year ago when DH was really ill and couldn't work and I wasn't sure what the future held for us financially and it wasn't a pleasant feeling. As a result I have set up a small online business and have learnt a little about things like PR and writing press releases, so if you want to bounce ideas off me or need any help about doing a website etc, please just shout.

Tutter · 08/11/2006 12:39

flamesparrow, if it'll help i'm more than happy to lend you the £40 - just give it back when you can - no hurry

Flamesparrow · 08/11/2006 13:47

Awww Tutter - you're lovely!! I have come to the same deal with my mum

KP - Are you coming to the Xmas meet (Bournemouth one)? I'm gonna be coming somehow even if I just swipe food off everyone else's plate .

I hadn't seen the thread but have just found it. I'm not great evenings at the moment as I have gallstones that kick in a few times a week, so will probably have to pass on that one unfortunetly.

NomDePlume · 08/11/2006 14:23

Flamesparrow, what have you actullay trieds to get clients ?

Have you contacted your local post-natal groups ? Mother and toddler ? NCT ? Even ante-natal classes ? Maybe you could start doing little demos and presentations at similar groups ? When I went to these types of groups there was often a guest speaker who would talk to us about alsorts from carseat safety to baby massage to the best investment/savings accoutns for children

Sorry if this has already been covered in this thread, have only read the OP.

NomDePlume · 08/11/2006 14:24

blueshoes · 08/11/2006 14:29
