Does anyone know how I get the police to find and get my sister assessed?

Just tried the police again, feeling more hopeful they might look for her Smile

Ink, did you get support to your sister?

Inkspots · 03/04/2015 18:18

Yes we did in the end thanks bright. A heartfelt plea and a bit of background explaining to police fom us, plus GP from 111 (with access to notes) recommending the police act helped somewhat. Was not easy, I had to persuade her over the phone to go with the police to a MH ward, which thankfully she did, where they soon took action to section her to prevent her from leaving. She is already responding well to treatment and the ward staff have been wonderful.

Staggered and angered by lack of out of hours availability of social workers and care team though - you used to at least be able to speak to a duty social worker out of hours, not anymore.

It's so sad to think we so very nearly lost her to the streets. It shouldn't be so hard to get a person to hospital when they are clearly unwell, and not able to look after themselves.

Oh what a worry.
Provision is so sketchy. Glad she is safe and hope things improve.

Thanks Pancake it is a real relief.

On a purely selfish level, I am cross (not with sister obv) I've lost another job over this type of situation though - I had a job offer subject to arranging additional childcare (for extra hours that had just come up) but wasn't able to get back to them quickly enough because of this, and they gave it to someone else. I can give upteen similar situations that have caused me huge issues at work resulting in me leaving as not able to manage.

So now I am claiming HB for longer than I needed to. The knock on effects of cuts to MH services are SO short-sighted. In our case alone, if you add up all the police costs and emergency treatment over the last 6 months or so; a few more support workers and occupational services on the ground would seem to me a bit more cost-effective! My sister's team has been reduced from 14 to 4 support workers for the entire district!

Sorry that's probably a bit self absorbed of me. In my defence I am exhausted and a bit run down.

Not self absorbed, just shows the real impact on real people of such short sighted policy and cuts!

Inkspot, well done on getting your Dsis the help she needs ATM. It can't have been easy. Thanks

Pancakeflipper · 04/04/2015 08:35

It's not self-absorbed. It's the reality, the impact of your sister not getting apt care.

Inkspots · 07/04/2015 12:17

Thank you for the kind comments and support. It has meant a lot. It did feel very lonely and desperate while it was going on.

Dsis is responding well now to treatment and I feel so pleased to have helped. But it's also making me think of all the poor people who don't perhaps have family fighting for their care, who must quite literally end up on the streets.

Sad
