Cut For Zayn

My DD2 aged 13 has just informed me of a lot of posts on Facebook/ twitter etc advocating that people should self harm for Zayn.
Thankfully, DD is discussing and recognising the situation to be as it is- a man leaving a pop group, but if anyone has any advice for anyone who may have a Dd who is looking at these things and thinking it an appropriate expression of upset, please share.
I was recently at a conference and was lucky enough to hear Tanya Byron speak and was wondering if she may have advice.

Funnily enough my dd predicted exactly this response - her words were wait for the cutting pages to start now. .. dreadfully sad. I'm not sure how Tanya Baron fits in though!

She knows a lot about child and adolescent mental health- how they process things in relation to social media in particular. She's done q and a on here before.

On second thoughts...not in particular... But in addition to what she already knows.

The even sadder thing is this was probably started by trolls, like they did last time. I think it was Bieber that had been caught smoking so 4Chan took it upon themselves to create and get trending a tag that suggesting cutting to get them to quit..

You're right. What can be done?
Talk to our children....but they don't always want to.
Educate them young about social media, educate ourselves about social media? What else? It's so powerful to young minds.
