Thinking of trying again. Two months ago I lasted just two days of 10mg due to side effects. Does it come in smaller doses or can I chop the tablet? Obvs I'll chat with my GP just wondered. I'm super sensitive to everything.

I think 10mg are the smallest tablets and taking any less than this dose you would get no therapeutic benefit at all to be honest. What were the side effects? You might be better just trying a different anti depressant with a slightly different side effect profile? What are your main symptoms now that you are struggling with?

10mg is smallest dose afaik. Could you try's different medication? I have horrible side effects with any SSRI, so they switched me over to a tricyclic which has been fine.

I would try something else. I've been on 60mg citalopram before (before they changed the rules that said you aren't allowed to be on that much now) and it was the only thing that worked for me but equally I know other people who really can't get on with it at all and are much better on sertraline or something else. Go back to the gp and ask to try another drug.

Well I've got a prescription for 5mg every other day. I just have to cut the tablet with a pill cutter.

My side effects on 10mg were: sweating, spaced out, dilated pupils, through the roof anxiety, insomnia and that was just two pills. GP thinks they were just side effects of being anxious about the medication rather than the medication itself so is happy to try a reallllly slow build up.

2 weeks of 5mg every other day with a GP check up after week 1.
Then 2 weeks of 5mg every day, with another check up to decide from there.

I remain anxious.

It certainly sounds more likely that you were experiencing anxiety symptoms about the medication rather than physiological side effects ( not that that takes away from how distressing they must have felt) has you gp referred you for talking therapy as well as prescribing medication?

Tea, I'm on Citalipram now with a really slow build up as I'm so sensitive to medications. Started on 2.5mg, moved up to 5mg, then 7.5mg. The side effects have got less as I've moved up. I'm aiming for 10 or 15mg. Dr gave me beta blockers (non addictive) to deal with any shakes etc. Perhaps you could try it that way?

I also went up in 2.5 mg increments as a 10 mg dose gave me horrendous headaches.
It's also the way to come off them - reduce by 2.5mg every month and you wont have and withdraw symptoms.

I also believe that everyone's therapeutic dode is different. I am very petite & had strong initial effects to 5mg and had to move down to build up again. I'm hoping 10mg may be my dose.

I realise I need more than just therapy and finally feel like I'm on a path of recovery.

you might as well take smarties as to take 2.5mg and actually increasing dose will have side effects in itself. Your doctor is wrong, citalopram gives some really shitty side effects when you first start taking them. These can last up to two weeks and they don't work during this time so the anxiety does indeed increase. I used to have to put my head into the corner of the room or sofa to get it to stop. 20mg is the first effective dose but many people start on 10 and go up. 2.5 mg does is ok for when you are coming off them. I was on 40mg but then changed to escitalopram as you can have a higher dose and there are fewer side effects. They don't prescribe this first as its more expensive. I was given diazepam to help with the side effects when i first started. If i were you i'd get a different doctor.
