Feeling very very sad Hmm
Iv been in a dead end job for 4 yrs.
I did really badly in school because of my home life and no support.
I'm 38.
Is this it for me?
I hate my current job but so scared to apply for something else.
There is a position in a local school as admin assistant and I could do the job (so my friend who already works there tells me)
But on the form it states grade c's or above for maths and English.
I can't lie because you have to produce proof.
My friend is telling me to still
go for it and big myself up in the interview but that fills me with dread.
The last thing I can do is say good things about myself.
Where do I go from here?

I don't think you should lie. You will live in dread about being found out. What about going to a local College and taking some qualifications in Maths and English ?
With motivation behind you, you may turn out to be better than you think. If you enrol and then get an interview at least you can say that you are trying to get better qualifications.
They are free classes and as far as I know you can do them at night. They are definately not like being in school. You will receive a very sympathetic reception.
I know as I have a friend who started GCSE Maths last September after completing a foundation Maths and English course. Foundation 2 is accepted as a qualification. She was in care so had no proper schooling. She is 39 and is hoping to be a radiographer.
They are absolutely lovely to her at the College.

Thank you.
I think I will look into it. Even if I don't get the job then at least in the future I will be able to apply for other jobs

I was always terrible at maths, i did a free course at adult college and achieved level 2! I know i couldnt do Gcse but it really helped me understand basic maths that floored me before. Its worth a go, my tutor was lovely and you will be surprised how many people do struggle, but dont admit to it! A few of the people on the course were a lot younger than me too.

GCSEs or level 2 equivalents for maths and English are free to adults. Check your local fe college. If you were working towards them that may still count , otherwise I fear your application won't make the first cut.

Don't be scared of Maths. Try Khanacademy. Com It is the free online Maths course sponsored by Bill Gates. It is wonderful. It starts at the beginning with easy peasy stuff. It has videos and then goes on to tasks. You can keep repeating the tasks over and over again until you get it. It has a scratch pad option so that you can work on the screen without using paper. Or if you can pay, try Maths is fun. Also BBC bitesize Maths is free. All great stuff.
The first time you can solve an equation you will feel such a sense of achievement.
Go for it. You are in good company regarding Maths, as the number of people without GCSE maths is very high. Xx

Maths is a learned skill to a certain extent although some people have a pre disposition towards it. Some people are good at sport or Art.

Look at this, 7x = 14. it means 7multiplied by something equals 14. you can figure that out ihavenobrain. It's 2.
There are rules to learn in Maths and then you apply them in a certain order and then you have a solution.
You do need to know yout tables but there are apps for them.
Look forward to seeing your name changed to, I have a brain after all.
Xx
