I had a panic attack at work...

I work in a primary school and recently the class teacher has been in and out of the room as she is also the deputy head.
A child who has SEN finds this unsettling so I try to be there for him as a familiar face, he got a bit hysterical during numeracy and started to climb on me (he's 6/7) while in the process of taking him off my lap his pencil he was waving about accidentally caught me in the eye. It hurt like shit but i tried my best to hold it together for his sake. I managed to get myself to the staff toilet and saw my eye in the mirror and saw that it was bleeding.

Together with the teacher not being consistently in class, what had just happened in the last 10 minutes, trying to hold it together, seeing the blood and not wanting the child to get into trouble or upset him any further as it was a genuine accident, I had a panic attack on the bathroom floor.

It was awful. I lost control of my breathing, my head felt fuzzy and heavy and I was still crying. I was only there for about 10 minutes and then went on my break but the other ladies found me in the staff room and it started me off again and felt shaken for the rest of the day :(

I don't really know what the point in all this was, mainly to vent to off I think! But if anyone has any kind words or tips to calm you down while in a work place, it would be much appreciated.

Thank you all
x

An eye injury like that I suspect many people would panic as the thought of losing sight in the 1 eye is quite frightening.

When you have anxiety and accidents like this happen the panic and anxiety takes over, the only way to reduce it is to come up with something to distraction yourself ( easier said than done) mine is candy crush or looking at pictures on my phone.

I think it's perfectly understandable in the circumstances and most people would react that way. Are you actually ok (is your eye ok)?
