Forgot repeat prescription of sertraline, what should I do?

With dds and dhs birthdays and lots of work and also visitors staying, I forgot to order my repeat prescription of sertraline Sad I take 150 mg a day and only have in total 300 mg left. It takes 2 working days to get a repeat prescription and the receptionists at my gp surgery aren't very friendly if you call - you can only order repeat prescriptions on a certain telephone number between 2 and 3 pm or similar.

If I go in to the surgery on Monday without an appointment, will they be able to provide me with a prescription there and then?

I've heard the side effects are pretty horrendous when you come off sertraline, so don't want to just stop taking it. I could reduce my dose and might just have enough til I get the repeat prescription on Wednesday?

Sorry for repeated thread, phone wasn't able to post, but apparently did anyway!

What I meant to ask was, will they just tell me to wait 2 days like everyone else or will they take into consideration that I shouldn't be without my medication for 2 days and make an exception?

Hi there.
I'm on Venlafaxine and I know that if I miss a dose or take a reduced dose, then things are very unpleasant to say the least. I'm very sensitive to changes with my tablets. Speaking on a personal level, I wouldn't reduce my dose and would get on the phone as soon as the gp surgery opens on Monday and explain what's happened. I'm not entirely sure what happens, or if this would be at all do-able, but hopefully both the clerical and medical staff will view this as being pretty vital you get your prescription asap. Hopefully they receptionist will pass the message on to one of the doctors, who will then take the 5 minutes or so to look up your record and print off the prescription for you to then collect? If the receptionists are as arsey as you say then expect a few tut-tuts and "be more organised" etc....but if it gets you your meds then it's worth it!
I'll keep my fingers crossed for you, hopingyou manage to get it all sorted....let me know how you get on...good luck!

I think they should make an exception, given what the medication is for....'re-read my first reply and it was very long winded!! Suggested phoning instead of going in as it will stop you getting glares lol! And avoid long waiting time. However there's nothing like rushing someone along like being right there in front of them!! Did you know pharmacists can prescribe emergency prescription only medication? This is made more easy if you use the same pharmacy most, if not all of the time, because they will have a record or your recent past prescriptions. They will usually supply two or three days worth of your usual prescription on request, under certain circumstances Smile

Same happened to me and the pharmacist at my local boots gave me a couple of days worth to tide me over Smile

Ooh this is really good to know!

Thank you, that is good to know.

I hate using the phone at the best of times, I'm getting all stressed about having to ring them.

Just to update, I popped into my local surgery that is a small village branch of the main one and the receptionist is friendlier than at the main surgery. She sorted me a prescription by lunchtime which I took straight to the chemist Smile
