This drug is one of the few I haven't tried, but they all have side effects. All drugs affect users differently. Don't forget that they have to list all possible side-effects, for legal reasons (so they don't get their arses sued ). ADs work, but you may need to try several different ones as they are all different. For instance, I found Prozac gave me panic attacks and Effexor did absolutely nothing. Yet, my sister swore by Effexor.

Try them. You can expect to feel nauseous for a few days and you might get headaches and various other things. These are just while your body adjusts. I had terrible insomnia for a couple of days, but then I just felt incredibly tired.

no idea about that specific drug Sooz - but just wanted to tell yhou I have suffered from depression in the past, and the drugs really helped me to get my perspective back. did need to take them for around 2/3 weeks before I felt any effect though. HTH

I have been on this but it didn't really make much difference to me and it gave me joint pain but it did make me lose my appetite .just because it was like this for me doesn't mean it wont work for you.

hi there, have been on sertraline for about 9 mths and feel so much better for it. they take the edge off anxiety and you gradually get back to feeling "normal", whatever that is..!

sleepysooz · 14/10/2006 09:20

Well, that was horrible, in fact I'm still shaking. 12 hours later.

I took one with food like suggested the 3 hours later I felt very strange, heart started to race, I went all hot, then an enormous pain in my stomach, I flew to the loo and had diarrhoea, then was sick, nearly passed out, then had terrible shakes, in waves of spasms from my feeet to my head.

Is this normal, if it is, no way am I taking any more! I'd rather be depressed than be ill, I have a family to run I can't do that if I'm ill!

i've taken these, found them very helpful. doesn't sound like they are suiting you, given what you have described - whilst it does take your body up to a fortnight to get used to the tablets, which can affect your sleep/digestion, what you describe doesn't sound normal. I'ld speak to your doctor/practice nurse about it on Monday.

i had shakiness and nausea with various ADs,...... the one that worked for me was venlaflaxine - and it worked quick! all medications have side effects and with ADs, i was always told to give it 4 - 6 weeks to settle.. which is a long time when you are feeling crap......hang on in there...

sleepysooz · 14/10/2006 11:36

I couldn't think of anything worse than being ill for 4-6 weeks, I don't have any form of childcare, so I havent got an option, I will ring doctors on monday to let her know I'm not going to take them and ask her any other tablets, if not, will have to be brave and shake myself well!

How did you all put up with being ill, and looking after your family? I have DS 10yo and Twins 3 on Tuesday!

i've never had any incapacitating side effects from ADs, so the problem has never arisen sleepysooz. the sort of problems I have on starting ADs had have been runny tummy/nausea, but nothing that made me feel dreadful iyswim.

lulumama · 14/10/2006 13:34

i just got on with it ! and told myself would be worth it in the long run, but a lot of hit and miss with getting on right tablets....consultant psychiatrist got my meds right first time ! gp a bit vague..

sleepysooz · 14/10/2006 14:28

I am so desparate to feel well again, I'd try anything, but being sick and diarrhoea does make me bed bound!

I don't know how quick the anti-depressants take effect, but today even though I feel poorly, I am remarkably calm... is this the start of a new beginning or is it the knackered effect?

it does take a wee while for things to take effect, i had a few days of woolly headedness but not the horrble effects you described. it may also be important that your dose is correct, perhaps you were on too much too soon?

i would suggest you give it a good couple of wks, though as i too have no family support and a 3 and a 4 yr old, i know how hard it can be!
