hi.i have been taking prozac for nearly 5 weeks as i am suffering from ante-natal depression.i did start to feel a bit better at first but for the last few weeks i have felt awful,i have been in tears about 4 or 5 times everyday,i have not been able to see the funny side of anything and i have been really paranoid(thinking nmy dp is up to something and stuff like that).
i took prozac in my last pg and i thought it helped, but i also took omega 3 oils and im wondering if it was actually those that helped rather than the prozac as i dont feel any better this time,in fact i feel worse.
has anyone else had any similar experiences?

hi, I've been on Prozac in the past and I know that sometimes it takes up to 6 - 8 weeks for the tablets to take effect. Maybe it's just taking a bit longer than last time to kick-in. I regularly take Magnesium OK now and really feels that the extra vitamins, minerals etc. make a difference. Hope you start to feel happier soon {smile].

Hello divastrop, fancy meeting you here! I took prozac for PND, and found that I used to get terrible 'rages' almost to the point where I would be practically physically attacking people for wanting to look at dd1. Also had the paranoia thing which ironically was one of the reasons I started taking it!

My GP said that is not an unheard of effect and took me off it. I didn't experience any positive effects, but know people that did benefit from it, although it was a very 'subtle' effect. HTH. See you back on March 2007, sorry you're feeling bad.

If you think you're feeling worse than you were before, go back to your GP. It could be that you need to have the dosage adjusted.
I got worse on another SSRI, not prozac, but switched to something that worked.

hi annied.ive been getting a bit like that, shouting at ppl for queue jumping etc its like my gob has a life of its own!i was paranoid to start with but i recognised when i was being like that and could keep my mouth shut most of the time, but in the last 3 weeks ive believed my paranoid thoughts and accused dp of all sorts.
baked potato,im on 20mg and i cant take any more than that cos of being pg.
i just dont know whether to carry on or to see my gp about coming off it as i now dont know if it was that that made me feel better last time.

i too am onan ssri diva and dont really feel anything except more depressed. Doctor just keeps upping the dose - had not heared 6-8 weeks for them to work - maybe i should be patient. how long have you been on them?

divastrop · 28/09/2006 20:31

ive been on them for 5 weeks now.ive tried other ad's in the past.i had cipralex for PND last time and that turned me into a paranoid psycho within 4 days.i only agreed to take prozac again cos i thought it had worked last time, but now im wondering if it did?!

What sort of a dose is 20mg?Is it high?I can't remember what I was taking,it was a few years ago.Anyway I definately had horrible sideeffects.Taking prozac made me feel agitated and aggressive and I'm really not aggressive at all normally. It scared me so I came off them and tried some others until I found one I liked which is now Effexor XL.

divastrop · 29/09/2006 14:05

20mg is a low dose(i think the very lowest is 10mg),ive known ppl to be on 40 or 60 mg.

I loved prozac but a friend of mine had a terrible time on it. Another friend who's a doctor once told me that prescribing isn't an exact science, and there's more guesswork and 'giving it a go' than people realise. She said she actually relies on people coming back and telling her that a particular drug isn't working for them, so they can try something else, rather than assuming the doctor must always know the best drug for them.

So if you feel it's not working for you, my advice would be to go back to your gp and try something else.
