Does anyone else's anxiety manifest in insomnia?!

Really just to see how common this is

I find my anxiety causes me to lie awake for hours/nights at a time. I then find that fuels the anxiety

Then I spend all day worrying about the night times. It ruins my days totally

I hate lying awake - I just hate hate hate it. Want to go back to sleeping easily again

That's happened to me in the past when I've been very stressed. I then get stressed about not sleeping and it all turns into a vicious circle.

One trick that helped me was to write a list of my worries/ thoughts/ to-dos at bedtime. This helped me to mentally 'park' them without feeling that I might forget what I had to do the next day or feel like I had to mull them over. Chamomile tea at bedtime also helps sometimes, as well as some lavender oil sprinkled on my pillow.

Yes. What 2cats2many said i.e. "That's happened to me in the past when I've been very stressed. I then get stressed about not sleeping and it all turns into a vicious circle."

It's awful. For me it only stops when I stop worrying about whatever it is or get so exhausted that the next night I go into a deeper sleep. I find avoiding caffeine and rich food at night is a good idea. And mindfulness techniques can help with controlling the anxiety though it would be better still if you could combine this with tackling the cause of your anxiety. I hope it eases off soon.

Yes, I have a diagnosis of GAD ( generalised anxiety disorder) and this is a feature, for me.

Chuckthefucklebrothers · 03/10/2014 14:56

Yep. Strangely it doesn't seem to stop me going to sleep, I just wake up at silly o'clock in the morning and then am wide awake until 5min before the alarm goes off Confused

MrsMinton · 03/10/2014 14:59

Yes here too. Some nights I drop off but wake up lots. Other nights I can't go to sleep. I would love to just go to bed and sleep and feel awake and refreshed at the end!
