Had psychiatrist appointment today. Rocked up on time, feeling ok, filled in all the forms and mood charts and wrote the letter he asked me to write. I have done everything asked, attended appointments on time. Did the homework, took the tablets.

So I go to my appointment and after going through everything he drops the bombshell. He's been talking to my GP and counsellor, they think I need to go to a psych ward, GP has taken my side and said no she is better at home (private healthcare so cost not her consideration).

All this because I confessed to cutting myself. They are all talking behind my back and I was being open and honest. What is the point in being honest if they are talking without involving me and then calling it a duty of care. Surely I should be part of their care plan, thank god for my GP, sometimes I wonder if the private side are just trying to suck money out of my insurance. Or maybe I'm paranoid, but I don't think so?

Hope it goes well.
is it an NHS hospital or privately funded through insurance? may make a difference whether own room, or a curtained bay on a ward and how secure things are. I had no ability to lock things away apart from a small lockable drawer that they had lost key to - so do not take sentimental items in.

Colouring books, felt tips, magazines ( lots!), books, an iPad with downloaded programmes on if time in morning, a device to get Internet ( a dongle) can save you from boredom!! Photos of children. Agree nightmare you can wander around in and cardigans as not likely to get a dressing gown to fasten! Leggings are great as unlikely to be allowed a razor at first and if you do, depends if like shaving legs whilst watched. I used to get my dh to bring one in for me ( a battery one he let me use) take me off ward for an hour and get coffee elsewhere in NHS hospital and found a toilet to shave my legs in as refused to let a nurse " supervise me!"

Snacks definitely. Biscuits are great.

If it is for assessment and NHS likely to not see many staff or have therapy, more them deciding what is your diagnosis and treatment upon releas and medication, medication. if private it will vary - group sessions, more activities ( as you pay for it!) etc.

if you get a chance to do OT sessions, do, as good release from boredom and staff are different from nurses!!

all the best. you should be able to get your children in to visit on booked appointments in the family room - so do ask for that!!

Well DH and I went to the GP today and she read me the riot act, she said go voluntarily or we will invoke section 2.

She said she considered me lucid enough to sign myself in and was giving me one last chance (I did agree that I have lied and lied to everyone who has tried to help and turning up to appointments and taking meds while ignoring all advice was just plain stupid). I have agreed to go voluntarily as she said that they could call the police and drag me away, is that really true, it's not like I am a raging murderer?

I will be going to a private hospital in London this afternoon. I will not be on a locked ward and may be allowed out once they get my meds stabilised she said something about section 5.2 if I try to leave during my assessment period. I need to look that up. Hospital is over the road from DH's work so he can come over with stuff for me.

So it may only be a few days if I am stable. I need to do this, for my DH and children.

Will stock up on cigarettes and download as much as I can onto my iPad.

Just to add that this isn't just for SI, I also have a long term ED and substance abuse issues which need dealing with (which I have always refused to address). I will update in a couple of days once I'm settled. I have taken note of your lists of stuff and have a suitcase the size of a small car.

It is best to go voluntarily, I've been on a s. 2 and a s. 3. If you refuse to go once they invoke a sec. 2, the police can be invloved Sad I've never tried to resist once a section has been invoked, scared of police involvement.

a sec. 5(2) is invoked by a doctor if you ask to leave whilst you are there, it means they can hold you for 72 hours (I think), so that you can be assessed to see if you should be on a sec. 2 or 3 - 5(4) is similar but invoked by a nurse, for up to 6 hours - usually you then get transferred to a 5(2) so they have more time.

Good luck, stay strong.

Best to go in informally.

Mind website has lots of info on sections.

Good luck xx

How is it going?

windchimes23 · 01/10/2014 09:54

Hi thanks Fluffy it's ok. They have given me a treatment plan and are trying to sort out my meds. I wasn't allowed wifi at first but now I am. No visitors for the first five days Hmm

I am just being compliant really, I am trying my best. Going to go to my first group later this morning. Been sat out in the courtyard smoking a lot. But it's pissing down now so sitting in my room debating on whether to take a shower or not.

Feel a bit like a fish out of water, spoke to a few people but just keeping to myself for now.

My insurance has a 28 day clause in it so I have to work hard and sort things out.

How are you coping?

Glad it's ok. You are doing well. Hope you get visitors soon. I keep myself to myself here too you can get sucked into the drama. Thank god for wifi! Keep us updated! Xx

PM me if you're bored, we can have a whine or a laugh :) I think keeping to oneself is the best option, there does seem to be a lot of drama.
