Should I tell my boss about my mental health issues?

I've been on ads for a year and a half and have just come off them now. Did do it gradually but maybe not gradually enough as been having a very tough time the last week and a half, although this could also be pmt related.
My boss knows I have been on ads but no that I'm coming off them.
The thing is, I've taken 3 days off in the last 2 weeks but told my boss it was due to other illness not my mental state because I don't think he would consider it a 'proper' reason. Also had a mini-breakdown (little panic and big cry) over something very minor at work this week that my boss I aware of.
What I basically want to know is, what rights do I have and if I took in a letter from my gp would that protect be from being fired for taking too many days off?

Are you sure you were ready to come off? It sounds to me like you may still need them. You obviously still need a little support so I would think it may be an idea to go back to GP. Why did you come off, had you been feeling good for at least 6 months?

I'm not sure if it's the same everywhere, but I know in my job they have to be very careful about how they treat me because they know I have depression etc. for example, a couple of times I have become so stressed out and upset that I have literally just walked out of the door in the middle of a shift. And they couldn't do anything about it. I know someone else who was getting into trouble and basically the way they disciplined her should never have happened because she too had mental health problems. So telling them means they have to be more understanding, at least in my job, when things go a bit wrong.

However, on the other side of that I feel that because my line manager knows I have a vulnerability, he plays on that and to be honest I've had a lot of problems with him treating me like crap and I think he knows I'm too scared to say or do anything about it.

So it's a difficult one. If I were you I would be open about it to someone pretty high up that you know won't take advantage of you for it. And just ask them to keep the details very brief if they have to mention anything to your line manager.
