Hiya,
I've a 2 (nearly 3 yr old boy) who runs up and down repetatively and flapps his arms when he's anxious and excited. He has a good volcabulary and does not like to be pulld out of a routine. He lines up his trains ect in a perfect line & hates to leave them when we go out. My childminder has notived especially with the constant running up and down.
Can someone please advize me on what to do ?

You might get more knowledgable replies on the special needs board, here

Hi Jolly, I have a DS with ASD. The best advice I can give you is to go and see your GP with a list of your concerns and ask for a referral to a developmental paediatrician or child psych.

actually - just seen his age - discuss this with your health visitor as sometimes the processes for really young children are different.

Yes, what you write does sound like ASD traits, but only someone with specialist knowledge will be able to tell you for sure. Very worthwhile getting it checked out so you know where you stand.

Is he in pre-school or nursery? If so they can refer for testing. The testing process I onky know about from aged 4 and they use observations/ school info as part of the process where I live. Useful evidence from school.

My 2 yr old flaps his arms when excited too but I am not concerned, nit that is much use. Why not also post on SEN area of MN for specific advice? Where I live the initial referral takes a minimum of 6 months as there are long waiting lists but the advice is to collect evidence whilst waiting. A heal visitor will be a useful source of advice I think.
