Just that really, I have a young friend who has been under our local MH team & had been doing very well but is having a really bad patch. Her CPN has tried her best to support her at home, but suggested last week she might benefit from inpatient care for a while. Young friend was not happy with this as, understandably, she was worried about the implications for her job as a TA. She has now been told she must attend a clinic tomorrow,or be sectioned. She is terrified, and I just wanted to get clarification for her. If she agrees to go in, will it be better for her legally does anyone know?
TIA

I'm sorry your friend is having such a tough time. Yes, people can be voluntarily admitted. Sometimes they are voluntarily admitted on the understanding that should they try and discharge, they'd be sectioned anyway.

They rarely offer inpatient as so few beds, so if she can accept voluntary much the best way for work records as shows she has insight and complying with treatment ( just as with a physical illness).

Thanks, that's what I thought. I'm in a dilemma now as her mum is also a good friend, & because of their difficult relationship I don't think she tells her mum how bad she is. I'm sure the mum doesn't know the plans for tomorrow . If it were my daughter I'd want to know....would it be breaking a confidence?

If she is in hospital the mum is likely to find out. However as an adult it may be up to her to declare this unless sectioned.

The US has specific regulations regarding people wanting to enter on a visa waiver. If you've been sectioned, you certainly aren't able to enter on that scheme so going voluntarily is def better. This is really important for my career as I need to travel to the USA.
