Propranolol in pregnancy?

Hi all.

Last year I was taking a high dose of fluoxetine which I had a very bad reaction to. Severe anxiety and palpitations. GP swapped me to Amytriptylene and Propranolol to stop the palpitations.

I've taken amytriptylene on and off for the last 2 years. DH and I want to start TTC and I'm quite happy to wean down my dose - currently on 75mg and GP says the considered safe dose is 250mg so I'm well within safe parameters with my tiny dose.

I've not taken meds during my previous 2 pregnancies.

However the only thing that stops my panic attacks is the Propranolol. Currently taking 40mg a day. Again happy to wean off and only take it when needed ie if I have palpitations again. BUT can I take it when pregnant?! Again GP said it was fine.

I have the Mirena coil in at the moment. Guess I'm just looking for a bit of hand holding.

Has anyone here taken mental health meds whilst pregnant?

Why not ask the gp to refer you to a peri natal psychiatrist when you are pregnant so they can monitor your medications? Some people need to take medication in pregnancy as dc's say the risks are necessary, others do not as it depends on the health of the mother and how stable a parent can remain without medications. There are specialist midwives or psychiatrists to check with when pregnant however, either for your gp to contact or for you to see.

I saw one after the birth of my youngest but I've since moved area. (Shes 3 now so a while back)

I live about 15 miles away from the Peri Natal Psych unit that I went to before (its also the closest) but I'd totally forgotten about it until you mentioned it, so thanks.

My SIL had to take her epilepsy medication throughout pregnancy and she was reassuring my yesterday by saying that she and baby (now 15MO and perfectly healthy) were monitored more.
