Help, think I'm slipping into 'it' again - but I've been fine on ADs for 6 months?

Is this common? Am on 20mg of Citalopram. Not feeling awful yet but I know I'm not right IYSWIM?

I don't have a lot of stress at the moment, so I can't figure it out. I am feeling a bit sad about some relationships in my life but it's not really bad stuff.

What should/could I do? Upping my dose sounds like going backwards and I don't think Doc would be up for it anyway.

I'd talk to doc. Maybe instead of upping your Citalopram you might be better on something else?

I am on 20mg citalopram too - i have times like this. At the moment i am struggling due to something really stressful but episodes like you describe aren't uncommon for me. Ive been on them about a year (this time) more for anxiety really.

I was on 40mg before and my DP said i was like a zombie, so i wouldn't recommend it. Have you got to the root of why you feel bad? had any counselling at all?

yes, empress is right, there are other ADs - citalopram is usually the first one offered because its the cheapest but it doesn't suit everyone. Go back to the doctors and see what they suggest. I sometimes have diazepem if im really struggling.

I would definitely go and speak to your doctor. It could be that your dose needs increased. I was on 40mg fluoxetine for about a year when things started to go south, going up to 60mg was difficult but was definitely the right decision for me. And I managed to come off everything eventually so try not to be afraid of that. If you had an infection and a first dose of antibiotics didn't work you'd go back for another? That analogy helped me when adjusting dosage.

Thanks for your replies. LEM, I've had counselling (where I just talked and talked!) but it ended a few months ago. I wonder if I need that kind of talking therapy more often - can't afford it though.

Starting to get horrible thoughts again, particularly that I'm lazy, a bad Mum, a terrible wife (I am, the ADs have killed any sex drive, can't remember the last time, it was over 3 months ago)

Sorry, I went of on a tangent a bit there!

I've been on 40mg Citalopram for a week now because 20 wasn't stopping the stress - stress is still there but I'm also feeling tireder and finding it harder to think. I'm going to give it a month to start working properly but then I'll be asking about alternatives. I really would talk to them now before it gets any worse, OP.

I have had lots of counselling too - some better than others. I tried CBT and it didnt work for me, but it does work for lots of people. It may help with the negative thoughts - if you have a look on the mental health section here, there may be a link to moodgym which is an online CBT. Ask at your GP if there is availability on NHS counselling? I had counselling on the NHS, the second round i had to pay for but because we are on a low income i just paid what i could afford - £5 a session.
