I have been spiralling out of control. Probably if I think about out of sorts since I had my youngest 7 years ago.
But due to splitting with my exh its all come to a head.

So braved up and saw GP yesterday and have been prescribed citalopram. Starting 10mg then in a couple of weeks going up to 20mg.

I took it at night as they said it might cause drowsiness with the hope I would get a good nights sleep finally. That didn't happen.

I'm on day 6 and I started taking at night - no sleep at all Sad I now take it in the morning which helps a bit, but still struggle with sleep. I took nytol last night and managed a good 6 hours Smile

hope it works for you, the first few days can be rough but stick with it

Shinyshoes1 · 24/01/2014 09:15

Yeah stick with it it'll be worth it in the end

I remember feeling sick everyday for nearly 2 weeks when I first started citalopram

I've been in it 2 1/2 years now

woolypigs · 24/01/2014 09:22

I was having sickness, headaches and crap sleep anyway due to anxiety and stress levels so not noticing any difference yet.
I am worried about how up and down I am going to be as I have so much going on with personal and work life at the minute.
Dr asked if I wanted time off and even though I could really do with it due to a load of courses and workshops I can't take the time off. I just hope that it won't interfere too much.

Another long term user here - for me it keeps the edge of the depression and the anxiety and allows me to function as a normal human! Took about three weeks to kick in

woolypigs · 24/01/2014 09:33

Dr said that I should definitely feel a benefit of it towards the end of the second higher dose.

I've been on Citalopram for about 18 months now, I love it. As another poster said, it allows me to function as a normal human being. Anxiety is much better under control. I take it in the morning. Good luck with it.

I'm on day 4. Really dry mouth and not much sleep, I also feel a bit zombified, but it will pass. I already feel calmer and less fraught, with some perspective on things. I don't know if this is just a placebo effect from admitting I'm struggling though - my issues are mostly external, taking on too many commitments and I've handed a few off now I've admitted the issues. Hope it goes well for you xx

DepletedEnergy · 24/01/2014 13:12

Oh, and I've managed to keep working so far with no issues, but I've been taking mine in the evening so although I'm not getting much sleep some of the side effects are happening while I'm in bed, not at work. But you must do what is best for you.

So day 2.
I had a lot of twitching in my sleep last night and nervousness but I don't know if that was the medication or that I was going in to talk to manager today.
Anyway all went well with manager and we have agreed some time off which will allow me to lick my wounds.
I had some nausea this morning which had me retching which I hate.
Other than that nothing major to report in about.
Head us feeling clearer but I think that is just because I have admitted there was a problem.

I find my legs get a bit twitchy, they ache so much at night I'm constantly shifting them about to try and ease it Sad

woolypigs · 25/01/2014 13:25

Its really annoying isn't it. I am guessing though that it should ease off after a while.
