Anyone Found Going Back to Work Helped Combat Mild Depression?

I think i might have mild depression - as i have (not extreme levels of) anxiety.

When I went back to work part time after Dc1, i really was a happier person for the adult enviroment and stimulation.

Going back to work after dc2 really seems like it will be much harder as busier household and DP will be around less.

Did anyone else find it beneficial. I hate that quiet and empty feeling when DP and dc1 leave the house in the morn, and the day looms ahead with not enough to fill.

Interesting thread, I go back properly at the beginning of september and I'm hoping it will help.

Maybe I should make clear that i dont think i am suffering from depresssion per se, (unless anyone knows better and can tell me so! ). Its just that the day seems sooo long without work. And nothing extra gets done anyway, and then i feel annoyed nothing gets done when it could. I am definately of the personality type that is happier when they are out alot and with adult company.

Meetups with other mums just doesnt provide that outside stimulation as all we do is talk about our children!

Well I certainly hope it does help because that is my next move. Ive been at home with DS for over 2 1/2 yrs and I think things are ready for a bit of a shake up, the next stage as it were, otherwise I could be on the edge of feeling unsure of what it is I really want.

It is just so nice to go out of the door (even if it is only for a few hours each week) and go back to being a real person rather than just someone's mother. If you work part time, you will still find that you manage to do as much with your child in the time you are at home. If you don't work for a few years(as I was unable to after DS2) it does help to have a hobby or similar that takes you out of the house and away from children doing something worthwhile for a few hours each week. Oh and it helps to have good friends, sympathetic partner and parents.

Hello! I'm new to mumsnet and had 1st baby 7 weeks ago. Its an eyeopener to read all your messages as I thought I was weird to feel so shit and to miss work!

I love being a WOHM. I do 3 days a week. Love those 4 days at home - Thursday through to Monday, but by Monday, and especially now it's summer holidays, I LOVE coming back into work on Tuesday. Then by Thursday I'm gagging to have a day at home on my own with the kids, even if it's never quite as lovley as I hope it'll be once I'm there Bless 'em!

But seriously, hats off to SAHM. But for me I'm happy doing a bit of both and it's how it has to be for us.

If you feel the way you feel when DP and DC1 leave then I would say that work may well be the answer for you.

Try it and see. It's always harder with two but may well be worth it, it is for me. I have seperate childminders so 2 different places to pick up and drop off etc. DPO leaves before us and gets in after, I do everything. But am happier this way all the same.

Do you have soemwhre to go back to, what is the sitaution there?
