My friends brother is having his 1st episode, from the hustory it's appears to be drug endured as he has a long history of different drugs. He has delusions. Is paranoid and his life is disintegrating around him . He did see a psychiatrist as arranged by his father but when infront of the psychiatrist pulled him self together to hide his symptoms.
He has left his gf house and is living with mum The original gp says as he has moved address ( about 2 miles) he is no longer his remit. He needs to sign on at another gp.
He of course won't as doctors are part of the paranoia.
So how do we get him help, sectioned whatever?

Call A and E ask for a ambulance.

He is with his mother now. If he starts blocking the windows and taping up doors do we get her mum to ring an ambulance or do we just do it now?

Is it that simple just to call A&e ?

If you think he may be a danger to himself or others then call a ambulance. If you do don't tell him or he may become aggressive. If he is not a danger then sadly without his help I don't think you can do anything.

I'd suggest phoning the rethink helpline and asking for advice. They are awesome (and schizophrenia is main mental illness they deal with)

Yes you can ring 999 if you feel he needs urgent medical assistance.

He isn't a danger to anyone at the moment. The sister says she can just see him sinker lower into the paranoia and delusion. She wrote a letter to the gp detailing the symptoms and episodes. The gp read it out to him and said it was from his sister and what did he think of what was written.
She is a bit freaked about that as the delusion has shifted from an outward force to include herself in the conspiracy.

So until he is actually threatening there is little to do,
I think if she goes to see him at her mums and he starts with the paranoia chat then she should ring an ambulance.

It's a dreadful state of affairs when some one is do ill that they can't easily get help.

As others say unless he needs urgent medical attention or is a danger to self or others he can refuse treatment. If he is dangerous you can also contact the police for support as they can take someone to a place of safety against the will of a person under a short section if they deem the person fits the criteria whereas he can refuse an ambulance.

Does he actually have a diagnosis of schizophrenia? Just you say he pulled himself together in front of the psychiatrist and that it is his first episode- I can't imaging a GP would diagnose schizophrenia.

I am it asking just to be awkward but is it possible he is under the influence of drugs now? I knew someone once who had taken lots of drugs and alcohol over several days and not slept. He was in a state of drug induced mania which led to him being sectioned but he was medicated and made a full recovery.
