PND and time off work...

Hello,

I've recently been diagnosed with PND and just stated medication. Also I've been referred to cancelling but I only know that sessions will take place on Wednesdays. I've asked my employer to work from home on those days (it's doable and people do work from home sometimes) as I'm due back on 7th January but she told me I might have to apply for flexible working and is not sure I can work from home... I'm a little confused and this actually making me more upset as I feel I really REALLY will benefit from these sessions as I don't have any emotional support at home. Can anyone please advise what I can do or say to my employer? Or will doctor be able to write some sort of letter? Or of I just give up on this counselling thing... Hmm Xxx

Only now seem this.
I think that you need to post this on the employment board. They are very clued up on there.

Hi you can ask your Gp for a fit note, however work then have a right to refer you to OH to see if you are fit to work, what adaptations need to be made etc. Much can depend on your sick pay situation.

Do you know how many sessions you will have as if it is for a set number that can be helpful for negotiations with work. Also about how you can make your hours up, or would you take the time off as sick time or as holiday?

JennyC80 · 27/12/2013 20:13

I don't know how many sessions I'll need. I'm happy to do them in my lunch hour as it's only down the road from me but I'll need to work from home then. I'm happy to go to OH if I have to. I just want to get better to be honest... I'm even happy to have this time as unpaid... Xxx

Do work know the reason for your request to work from home on those days? I would hope they would be more understanding if they did.

I had PND and post-natal ptsd following the birth of my son. I had 7 months off on sick leave and on my return to work, my employers were very understanding about my need to attend counseling sessions and gp appointments.

Are you returning to work full time? If not, might it be possible for you to arrange your counselling sessions on your non-work days?

SilverStars · 27/12/2013 20:25

It sounds feasible. Some companies are easier to get to agree to things if they know how long something can be. I was offered counselling a few years ago but it was in work time, as full-time and my job is one cannot work from home so had to turn it down sadly.

May be wor asking for referral yourself to OH as they could support you if work say no initially.

Thank you! I really hope they will understand! It's horrible to have pnd or depression and have no support... X
