Life insurance questions - how to answer with history of depression and self harm?

I am having to apply for life insurance, and have had to declare depression 15 years ago as I was referred to psychiatrist. The next question is phrased "have you ever tried to harm yourself" so I obviously feel I should declare the fact I self harmed as it is on my GP records so if they checked it would be there. This does really piss me off though as it was so long ago. Do you think this will push my premiums up massively? Has anyone been in the same boat?

Whatever you do answer truthfully otherwise your insurance will be invalid. I think it will push your premiums up though.

Answer truthfully. I had something similar on mine and it made no difference at all to the quote or the cover. It's an awkward convo though, especially as my dh was there and didn't know the full back history at the time. So I lied and then called the guy straight afterwards Blush

It has to be honest, as otherwise your payments are a waste of money as if and when need to claim they can refuse to pay out for dishonest statements.

Thanks all, I will just swallow my pride and put it down (and wait and see if my premiums rise as a result!)
