emetophobe parents - have you 'got over it'?

I'm an emetophobe of over 20 years. I got pregnant on our honeymoon so we never 'tried' which helped with the anxiety. The phobia is why I left it until I was 37 to have a baby. Luckily I had a vomit free pregnancy and birth.

I now have a beautiful 7 mo and the onslaught of winter bugs is starting. The idea of d and v bug with a baby too is awful.....but the reality I face.

my question therefore is whether parenthood has helped any of you 'get over' your phobia? Also, have any therapies ever worked for you? I have had 3 lots of cbt, one lot of hypnotherapy and one of nlp I am now bankrupt and other than an improvement around others being sick from my first cbt there's been no change. I want to believe there's hope for me! I do not want my dd to inherit my insecurities.

Thank you all.

No! But CBT has helped. And the realisation that these things are usually very short lived... and the fact that up until now (crossing everything) I have never caught anything like that from dcs! There is a support thread in mental health - come and play!!

No DH cleared it up!

justmuddling thank you for the tip about the support thread (I hoped that MN would have some similar people). I will take a look. It's good to hear that CBT has helped you a bit and that you have managed to look at it realistically in terms of them generally being short-lived. Good point. How old are your DC?
Iwillorder so does your DH have a problem which means you are exposed regularly? Or did he 'clear up' in another wasy? Either way, sounds tough.

Thanks for posting both. Hoping more will be along soon.

Dc are 8 and 4. They've had a total of 5 v bugs between them I reckon, but younger one would v a fair bit with snot! I live in fear though even though I haven't v'ed myself for decades! Damn phobia!
