Was this a panic attack?

I'm a teacher, who has just started a new job in September. The school is a nice independent school, however I am struggling with the heavy workload. I have a history of depression and anxiety, but currently am not on medication. In the run up to half term, I was struggling to keep on top of everything, and was falling behind with work. I just had two weeks half term, and made a small dent in the workload, but I still feel pretty behind with work.

This morning I woke up and prepared to get ready for my first day back at work after half term. However my chest started feeling quite tight, and I notice my heart started beating very fast and I started feeling a bit nauseous. I lay down for a few minutes, and eventually my heart rate slowed down, my chest felt a bit less tight. I eventually felt well enough (within 10 minutes) to get dressed and ready for work.

Was this a panic attack? Could it be anything else? Should I see my GP about it? I don't think I feel able to tell anyone at work, I only started in September.

Does sound like a panic attack. I Would check it out with gp though to be sure.

Hi, would talking to your manager about your workload help? As whether it was a panic attack or not you say you are struggling with your workload. Maybe post on relevant bit of board for ideas from experienced teachers how they manage their workload, as I imagine next few months are busy times? Writing lists and setting realistic goals could help?
