What's yr dose and how long have you taken it for?

Iv been on a ssri anti depressant for a year with the dose been doubled with no success with my depression and hyper vigilance anxiety, iv also been on two antipsychotics for mood stablising and with no effect its like taking smarties.

The only thing that really helps relieve my anxiety is lorazepam or diazepam but doctor will only prescribe these short periods due to addictive properties leaving me long periods with dibilitating symptoms.

What Antidepressant hasve helped you?

I have severe complex mental health disorders
I need some type of medication but nothing is working.

There are other anti-depressants / anti-anxiety medications that you can try. I was on mirtazipine for a bit and found that really helped with my anxiety, trazodone helped calm me down as well.

How long did you stay on the anti-psychotics for? I have found being on them has been the best thing to slow my thinking down and make me feel calmer but they took months to work.

You are never going to get a regular script for any sort of benzo, I would go back to your GP and ask to try a different class of anti-depressants.

I was on olanzapine for 8 months doctor took me off them as it effected my heart rythem got TDs and gained
Masses of weight, went onto risperidone for a year with no improvements to stablising my moods, if anything it made me even more unmotivated, I just didn't care about anything, I've been ADs and APs free for nearly three months and I feel so much better iv done loads in the last two months than I have in two years of taking meds but I'm still really hyper vigilant, overwhelming emotions, I have severe childhood trauma and just can't manage the symptoms, Im trying to access specialist psychotherapy but my symptoms deem me unsuitable at present, too provoking to my mental state. Iv seen a private trauma specialist but he wants to see me through the NHS so he has more support for himself so he can access emergency support for me if I deteriorate through the work we will have to do. Nhs psychotherapy access is going to take possibly years, I really can't wait years with my symptoms its pure daily agony.

I can't take any medications that increase weight as I'm now overweight with the concequences of APs. Mirtazapine increase weight, I'm successfully loosing weight now, putting weight back on would destroy me.

Hi - sorry to hear that. But how great you have found someone who wants to see you through the NHS, that sounds a great offer even if a long wait to see them. To be honest I saw someone privately, who used to contact my Gp if they thought I had deteriorated, or a CPN if I had one at the time. Couldn't they do that? As for support for himself, private professionals are expected to have their own supervision, so that should not be an issue. All emergency support he can access through contacting your Gp or any mental health or social care worker you have allocated to you, so that should not put him off. If that helps. Oh and what has helped me has varied - but quetiatpiane, sertraline combination or as an AD - venlaflaxine or mirtazapine.

Have you tried other AD and anti psychotic combinations? Quetiapiane is another anti psychotic for example? Often used with say sertraline? But lots of other combinations and newer medications out there. No Gp or psychiatrist would prescribe diazepam or lorazepam long term - it is addictive, needs to be used in higher and higher doses to have an effect etc. It is useful in short, sharp doses for particular crises etc, which is how it tends to be prescribed. Could you ask to see a psychiatrist and ask for a few days supply of something like diazepam for crisis episodes etc?

my one of friend used to take Diazepam but now he is taking Ritalin for his sleeping issues

Would a mood stabiliser help? Lithium, Valporate, Lamotrigine?

Some progress seen Gp and understood previous medication not helping so has given me prn diazepam for crisis periods, so I only take it when I'm really struggling. Gp referred me for MHA in a couple of weeks where medication can be precribed there and then. Years ago iv tried melleril which really helped but now banned and then haloperidol which helped but considered out of date and preferred drug is risperidone. Olanzapine, quieterpin but none of those r suitable for me, would love to give Ritalin as I have ADD traits but I bet I won't get that as Adult ADD is totally dissed here in my area.

Psychotherapy assessment in process and could recieve it if accepted around 9+ months so not years as long as I thought been told I should receive an appointment in a few weeks.
