Online tests have just diagnosed moderate to severe depression

Am shocked at online tests - didn't realise just how bad it was!! Did 4 different tests and all came back with same result.

I don't have a history of depression but have had major relationship issues over last year - so has been a rollercoaster!!

Went to docs a few months ago who said he was happy to prescribe anti-depressants. But am reluctant to go on meds.

Have just bought some St Johns Wort drops to add to water - will these be strong enough for moderate to severe depression?

It might be worth trying the St. John's wort but if your depression is quite severe I'm not sure how effective it will be. Definitely worth trying if you're reluctant to take medication.

If you think your depression is due to known external factors and don't want to go on medication then looking after yourself and being kind to yourself might help you through it. St John's Wort worth a go, plus walks/excercise, fresh air and sunlight, maybe a multi-vitamin, plenty of healthy food, sleep etc. Obviously, if your relationship issues are still unresolved this will not make the depression go a away, but it might help it lessen.

Why not try the St John's Wort and whatever else you can and then do the tests again in a month and see if you get a better result?

I don't know if this is any help, but I have just started on 10mg of citalopram for anxiety and depression, having resisted medication for several years of on and off problems. I can pretty much manage when things are easy but when big stuff happens I turn into a monster who shouts and has the patience of a, well not very patient thing.
I feel human again. Not only have I not shouted but I've realised that I spent my life in an exhausting constant effort not to lose it.
I really, really didn't want meds. I tried cbt, exercise, diet, everything. You might get through without, but what I'm saying is that if drugs are the answer it might be okay and actually more than okay.
