Beginning to think that the meds are working finally - went for a long walk today (now soaked and have blisters but it was fun).

Fit note runs out next Friday; originally consultant said a further 2 months off (after the first month off work) then reduced to one as I thought work would freak!

Not sure whether to stick to his original plan and ask for a further month or think about going back, on a long phased return. On reduced pay which is not helping with the decision making as need the money but want to do what is right so I do not go back too soon ...

Anyone with similar experience able to offer any advice?

A long phased return sounds wise, no matter when you start back at work. Why don't you try 3-5 days before you need to see dr to extend sick note of getting up at the time you need to for work, no daytime naps, going t bed at work time and doing some busy things to give you an idea of what it would be like at work?

Often dr's and consultants cannot guess how long someone needs off work, so it is helpful to review it. Are you full time and if so could you negotiate the phased return you want. So if normally work mon- fri full time then it can really help if the first day you return is say a thu so only a short first week back? Then the next week either have a few hours each day or in less days? Do you have a good occupational health department or is it just you, your gp and manager at work sorting it out?

Thanks HH - puts things into perspective: even the thought of getting up on time, keeping busy and no daytime naps is enough to send me back to bed! Wink

OH are good but not seeing them for another couple of weeks; my GP is good so I could suggest a return that would suit; was definitely thinking of shorter days to start with and maybe starting a bit later as I HATE these dark mornings.

Think I will have another couple of weeks after half term doing as you say - getting ready to go back :)

Definitely if so reduced hours then do the hours in the day that best suit you. I hate early mornings and Nov-April mornings are the worst!! I put a hot heated thing in the car to cuddle on way to work and just throw myself into a hot shower to wake up!! I think many people hate mornings. I once did a job that was 1-9pm which was perfect for me!!
