CBT over the phone?

Finally got round to seeing my Dr about anxiety. She has recommended a course of CBT. I can either do this in a group of 15 people or over the phone. As I know I won't feel comfortable in a room with 15 strangers I have opted for the phone call sessions.

Has anyone else done CBT over the phone? Will it even work? Seems weird to be having therapy over the phone. Is this normal?

Hi Georgina

If its the same as I had its a computer based programme called fear fighter. You work through the programme and your therapist can link into your responses. The therapist then calls you and works through each stage with you.
It really did help me.
There is no time limit to completing it.
It covers your triggers, avoidance and exposure.

Good luck

Not done a course but had therapy over the phone - just the same as seeing a person I found once used to it.

Thank you for replying. I will give it a go. Not sure if it is a computer based program. All I know is that it is called Talking Therapy (through the NHS).

Good to know it helped you.

I assume you mean Cognitive Behavioural Therapy & it's meant to give great results, even when used over the phone. Good luck.

I have received both NLP and CBT therapy over the phone, on Skype and in person, and can 100% re-assure you that all were as effective as each other. I didn't feel like I was 'missing out' on anything and it really, really worked. Good luck and message me if you have any questions!
