Trying to lose weight on Citalopram

My GP says it's possible. I am not sure. I blame Citalopram for my weight gain, my GP doesn't agree, but she admits it can interfere with the 'feeling full' response, in that you don't. Confused

Tomorrow is the day I start. I don't want to put any more weight on.

What do you think?

Can you change ad? I lost weight on citalopram, as a rather nice side effect, not deliberately! But if you are fighting against how you feel all the time it's not going to help with depression, so worth trying a different one I think.

That's an idea actually talking. I have been on it for 2 years, and the weight has slowly crept up to the point I am getting down about it, but feeling fine about everything else.

It is a bit of a dream to come off the ADs but had one failed attempt already.

I think sertraline is the one reccommended for people who are overweight- not certain though. Good luck with your gp.

I am on Citalopram. I've also lost nearly 4 stone in a year on Slimming World. I guess it varies person to person?

That's brilliant Betty, it goes to show it is possible though.

I will speak to my GP, but she doesn't think the Citalopram caused my weight gain.

Your go is right in what she says. It doesn't cause you to gain weight but it can lead you to eat more because it suppresses your fullness feeling.

Thanks Sparkling. Luckily I haven't found weight gain an issue, insomnia on the other hand.. Sad
