No one else to turn to as no one in RL understands how I feel

I've tried to overdose a few times but never have the guts to carry on.

Struggling with depression all on my own - no family support me & my one friend who supports me has enough stress of her own I don't want to bother her with my problems.

Have you spoken to your GP?

(Love sent x x)

Messupmum · 22/09/2013 20:55

Sorry you feel like this. Don't really know what to say, I could have written what you have, even about the friend who helps but has their own issues.

It's so crap feeling like this. You need to speak to GP or someone, and they will help you.

SnowyMouse · 22/09/2013 20:55

Try your out of hours GP, or A&E?

NannyMcphee12 · 22/09/2013 20:55

Spoken to GP - see him every month and have done for the last 6 months as I won't see a councillor.

Got anti depressants - was on 20mg but been reduced to 10mg and they do nothing

I struggle to tell anyone in RL, took me 5 months to actually go to GP so really don't want to go to out of hours or a&be

Does GP know how exactly HOW desperate you are feeling? Does s/he know you are feeling suicidal?

Sorry to be blunt but why don't you want to see a counsellor? (No judgement implied at all, genuine question)

NannyMcphee12 · 22/09/2013 21:02

GP knows how I'm feeling & that I've attempted suicide.

I won't see a counsellor as I saw one and she was horrid - made feel worse. I find it easier to speak to GP as hes been my gp since I was tiny

Hi,
Well done for reaching out and posting on here. I agree that A&E is not the right place unless you think you need to be in hospital to keep yourself safe. Which antidepressant are you on? 10 mg sounds like it would be a low dose of any of them. Have you tried more than one? Has your gp discussed psychological therapies with you?
I would suggest phoning your gp and requesting an urgent appointment, before you go have a look at the rcpsych website patient information leaflets on depression and it's treatment. I am sure you can get yourself to a better place than you are currently in but please get professional help.
Keep posting and talking if you need to. Take care x x

nettlemummy · 22/09/2013 21:05

Gosh, sorry I cross posted with you. If your gp is not helpful then see another one. You are not well and need support x x x

Counsellor not gp sorry

NannyMcphee12 · 22/09/2013 21:08

The bad experience with the one councillor has put me off.

My plan was to see GP this week as I feel I'm worse.

I'm on citalopram and have been since I first saw GP

There are other antidepressants such as sertraline, fluoxetine that are often used if citalopram not had much effect. Or maybe a higher dose of citalopram.

It is absolutely ok to not want counselling right now. It is rationed on the NHS and if you have it when you not ready to use it then it will be a real waste for you.

There are some charities that may fader space or activities or groups if you look up what is in your area. Do you have children? If under 5 you could seek extra support from your health visitor or chikdren's centre.

Yes definitely see your GP.
I would ask to see another counsellor if I were you. A different one. Since you know your GP so well, he should be able to make a recommendation.
