Post natal depression with a two year old?

Recently I have noticed that I am just generally struggling with day to day life, I feel like whenever I sleep I'm getting no rest from it, day to day jobs are becoming a struggle, I had so much trouble with the nexplanon implant from the month I had it, I'm wondering if the trouble I was having with it just hid anything that could have been wrong. I have recently had it out in the past three months and that is when I noticed the problems. I have had blood tests done for my tiredness and everything came back fine. I'm just wondering if it is possible for pnd to have been unnoticed for two years

Hi,
I'm so sorry to hear what you are going through. Do you work at all? Does your LO go to nursery?

I am sorry I can't offer much advice, I just wanted to reply as I'm going through a similar thing. I just had blood work done too- all came back ok.

I am going to speak to GP again. I know you will get much more normative replies, but just wanted to let you know there is someone else out there feeling the same and struggling too. Hugs x

What's your diet like?

Iwaswatchingthat · 23/08/2013 13:37

PND caught me out when my dd2 was 18 months old and my dd1 was 3 years old.

I think I had been struggling with it for about a year until I relented to it and had a bit of a breakdown - just could not get out of bed one day.

Tiredness is a symptom. Do you feel low in mood or just tired?

fedupandtired · 23/08/2013 14:26

You may well be suffering with depression. I don't think you can really class it as PND as that's the term used when you're suffering from depression post natally (up to 12 months after having a baby). You can suffer with depression at any time though.

Best bet is to go and have a chat with your GP.

My diet is healthy, I am looking for work, waiting to hear back about several jobs. I feel tired and down, no energy, if I have to leave the house I do it but it is a massive struggle to get out. Some days are fine then other days just are horrendous

Hi you may have had pnd but if you still have it now it will be classed as depression due to the age of your child. Have you had blood tests to rule out anything causing tiredness, like anaemia and thyroid tests as worth ruling out?

mummyaimz · 23/08/2013 19:59

Yep blood tests have been done and they came back fine

Does the implant have hormones in it? If yes then my bet is that it's totally messed with you hormonally since having it out.

I've suffered with post natal anxiety twice now and I'm catergorically convinced it's been hormone related - some people are just more sensitive to fluctuations.

Have you had your hormones checked? Low estrogen can cause anxiety. However sometimes hormones can come back 'normal' yet still affect you.

I'm trying to balance mine postnatally naturally. I've been exercising every second night and eating a fantastic diet. Since making the changes my symptoms have improved by about 60%. I'm not out of the woods but DD is only 4.5 months and I'm still BFing. It lasted a lot longer with DS however I wasn't as proactive.

CBT/working on positive thought helps too.

PND wouldn't have gone 'unnoticed' I wouldn't think. Mine on both occasions has been debilitating and this time resulted in a breakdown.

X

The implant did contain a hormone. Can't remember what it was but before they took the implant out they stuck me on cerazette to control my periods (I was having month long periods) and then because I had to have a colposcopy they stuck me on another set of tablets to stop the bleeding so from what I gather I was on three hormonal medications but now I am just on microgynon and I am used to that as I've been on it before and had no trouble. Would my hormone levels not have been picked up in the blood test I had done?

Not unless they tested your hormones...

mummyaimz · 24/08/2013 20:45

Then most likely not, think it was for thyroid, anaemia and diabetes. Not sure as it was about a month ago. I haven't been well for a while though, doctors (after five months of pestering) found a growth and as I said have had a colposcopy and they think I have a CIN 2. Just awaiting results. I doubt that will affect my hormones unless my hormones were the cause as it wasnt there before I fell pregnant. Will get my hormone levels checked though. I know eastrogen can be a bit of a bitch and cause problems if the levels are off so will have to check. Still don't think I should have been in three hormone medications at once. I'm not now but when I found out I was I was shocked and stopped and just asked for the implant removed because I didn't want all the meds messing me up, which by the sounds of it may already have

Remember that even if they come back as 'normal' hormones could still be the culprit as normal for one woman is not normal for another. Does it get worst before periods?

mummyaimz · 24/08/2013 23:51

Not sure, it does seem to be random, I haven't noticed a pattern but I will have to keep an eye on it when I am next due
