Please help me come off venlafaxine

I've been on it for around 18-20 months. Initially was on 150mg (75mg twice a day) and have managed about a year ago to wean to 75mg. Am now taking every other day without bad withdrawal (fatigue, dizziness and uncoordinated, severe nausea-almost debilitating) but I can't go longer than this. I am due to see the GP next week, but I've read online that coming off venlafaxine is a complete nightmare Hmm any suggestions???

It is a nightmare to come off and the easiest way is to get a very short supply of Prozac which will eliminate the withdrawal symptoms completely.

I had capsules and the only way I came off it was to reduce very slowly over many months by taking apart the capsule and counting out the beads inside and reducing very slowly. Nit recommended but only way I could do it. Ask your gp they may have ideas. Slowly is best though

Thank you!

I will be asking the GP for fluoxetine anyway so hopefully that will help curb the withdrawals. I have a fear of sick and also 2 kids so having a few days in bed is NOT an option for me, unfortunately.

Just bumping up because I saw the GP and got a prescription for Fluoxetine (20mg). Yesterday was my "velaxfaxine" day and I took the Fluoxetine instead. Now I'm feeling the withdrawals starting. What do I do? Take half a venlafaxine?? The GP said to just stop it.

That's odd because you shouldn't get any withdrawal symptoms if you've taken fluoxetine.

No, you shouldn't take anymore venlafaxine as each time you do that you'll suffer symptoms each and every time you don't take any.

What you do though, I'm not sure. I've never heard of anyone taking fluoxetine and still getting withdrawal symptoms before.

Happy to report that nothing more came of withdrawal symptoms other than occasional light headedness for 2 days and now I am fine :) Haven't taken the venlafaxine in nearly a week and already feel SO much better!! Thanks for the Fluoxetine suggestion, it's worked a treat :)

Hi banana I've just seen this. Glad withdrawal symptoms have passed. One question though will you be continuing to take the fluoxetine?
