Hearing voices?

Not in the 'traditional' sense. The voices are not telling me to do anything, they are not even talking to me! It's like hearing a conversation between two people, one standing right next to me, e other staticky, as if on a speaker phone or radio.

I know they are speaking English, but I can't understand what they are saying. Not because of accents or anything, but it's like I hear the words, but they don't make sense then two seconds later I forget what the words are.

I hear it in different places, at home, at work, when out shopping and each time it's the same two voices which no one else can hear.

I'm not on any medication, am not ill (well I have a cold), it's been happening for about three weeks.

I told my OH, because I genuinely thought it was him winding me up. But then I started hearing it at work and at other times when OH isn't there.

Other than the voices, I feel fine. DD has just started regularly sleeping through the night, love my job, no problems at home.

I do have heightened anxiety due to stuff that has happened in the past, but I've had that for the past 12 years.

What the fuck is this? Sad

for you

LalyRawr · 27/07/2013 22:22

Thanks Tortington, that site is similar to others I found when Googling.

I guess the bit that throws me is that the voices don't bloody talk to me! All sites I've found focus on voices talking to/about you. I haven't found anything about voices which, I don't know, you just overhear?

How often does it happen? Is it at certain times? Have you any hearing problems at all?

LalyRawr · 27/07/2013 22:32

It's all variable Peacocklady.

The first time I heard it was at home, asleep. The voice actually woke me up. Put it down to dreaming.

Didn't hear anything for a couple of days, then heard it twice about four days later. Once at work, once on the DLR home.

Nothing for two days, then heard it once when out shopping. Twice the next day etc.

All at different times/places.

Hearing is fine, never had any problems.

I would tell the dr. I think you can learn to turn the voices off sort of thing, you prob need a referral.
It must be quite a strange experience, like a waking dream. I've had voices wake me up when I'm close to the surface in a dream but never fully awake.

That's what I thought as well, especially where the first time I was sleeping. Just figured it was that half awake/half asleep state.

Then I thought maybe lucid dreaming when I heard it at work. But it just doesn't fit.

Not overly keen on going to GP (one of my anxiety triggers), especially as the voices aren't really doing any harm. Just wondered if anyone had ever experienced something similar/knew what the hell was going on.

But thank you for replying. Don't want to tell anyone in RL, but am grateful for a place to get it all down!

I hear things sometimes too. For me it is like the radio is on but no body else can hear it! Apparently lots of people hear things but it us very scary isn't it? I take medication (anti-psychotics) to help me manage it. I think it would be worth discussing with your GP but I know why it seems scary. There might be a very simple physical reason to hear things so its worth investigating.

I try to think of it as my brain is so full my thoughts sort of turn into voices or sounds. I rarely feel talked to, I hear end snippets of conversation and very on and off.

The fact that you recognise that other people don't

hear them and that you are hearing things shows tgat you have a lot of insight which is great.
