Hi all, I've just started taking Citalopram for anxiety, main problem for me is obsessive thinking and ruminating, not so much the physical symptoms. Does anyone have any positive responses from this drug for this type of problem. I'm on day 2 and feel pretty low today. Thanks !

Hi stardust
I was prescribed 10mg of citalopram for anxiety and have been on them for 8 months now.
They are working for me but I also had cbt and counselling.
It takes a little while to get in your system so you have to persevere. The first week to ten days can be a little difficult.
Good luck x

Thank you, on day 3 and also had CBT the other day, but had to start analizing my thoughts, which was hard, as I have so many of them, and I found it very overwhelming. It's not as if I can stop these thoughts from coming, so I've not kept the diary of thoughts today. did you find CBT better for you or counselling ?

Hi

Counselling was the best thing. I had 6 hour long sessions. Private health.
She suggested mindfulness cd.
I was suffering with anxiety and panic attacks. The anxiety was overwhelming.
Literally overnight I changed from being fun, full of life, would go anywhere to being afraid of everything. My rock bottom was October last year when I didn't leave the house for 2 weeks. I went in citalopram then.

I have tried everything from hypnotherapy , acupuncture, researching, tapping, exercise, diet, counselling, cbt

I started cbt in January. Computer based with a phone call after each session from a counsellor. You have to challenge your thoughts through activities. It does work. Not all plain sailing. Tajes commitment.

I still keep a rough diary. I just jot down good and bad days so I can see how far I have come on. It's encouraging because you do forget the good days.

I would say I am 75% better. I have just had food poisoning and whenever I get ill I wonder if its the anxiety. But my husband was also ill after a meal out so I know it's not.

Anxiety is the hardest thing to deal with but you will come out stronger. As will I xx
