just a quick message for now but I'm considering trying sertaline. I have a 7month old and had antenatal anxiety and some pnd but in reality it's no different to many years of yo - yo ing with a dodgy thyroid which started when I was 20. I had terrible experiences on seroxat then (the thyroid wasn't initially diagnosed) so have since always dealt with depression and anxiety with betablockers, counselling and distraction (very hard working, li tsunami of exersise etc) and trying desperately to keep on top of my thyroid.

for years I've blamed the thyroid but now I'm wondering if I'm just a bit better when the thyroid is better. as you just feel so much better physically and I can think well. so work hard and exercise lots see friends...... distract myself!

I'm scared I'll feel like shit on it.

oh and my son sleeps for 3 hours max, 20 minutes min but I cosleep and refuse to 'sleep train' and cc as I don't believe iin it, (learned helplessness) and of course I worry I'll damage his mental health too!!!

any experiences of sertraline?

thanks cu and hazel Smile

cu did it make you sleepy/ fuzzy headed? I don't want to get extra fog head than I'm already prone to with thyroid problems!

Sertraline has not made me sleepy which is good. It has made me forgetful, which is bad. Despite that I think my mind is clearer. I am keeping a list of the things I'm forgetting - eg to strap both children into their car seats, to take my card out if the chip and pin machine, to keep an eye on whether my pram is blocking people's path - and this is compensating.

I've been looking at hypothyroidism - I've no symptoms beyond depression/fatigue BUT I have lost my eyebrows - this happened during my first pg. Might ask the doctor about it.

Oops sorry I see that qu wasn't directed at me. Apols.

CUnexttuseday · 27/07/2013 08:01

no it hasn't made me any more sleepy

Clarella · 27/07/2013 08:18

no don't worry hazel, your post is v helpful!

interesting you say you feel your mind is clearer despite the forgetfulness. I assume you mean it's not full of the negative ruminatings of anxiety / depression? are you able to concentrate well? I'm going back to work - special needs teacher- and I do need to be able to keep on my toes mind wise.

thyroid symptoms can vary; I never put weight on. my main noticeable symptoms are foggy head, inability to concentrate on tasks, tiredness, anxiety (as I'm struggling to manage with daily life) and (tmi !) slower bowels. infact being regular is my main point of reference!

I'm hoping though if my thyroid is well managed and so my mind is sharp but I still need the sertaline that my thinking will remain sharp.

by the way every woman's thyroid enlarges during preg and the hormones change (naturally) so los t eyebrows could be part of that, however it is common for thyroids issues to start post partum so just worth checking Smile
