really sorry if this is in the wrong place. I have very recently employed a 17 year old and i noticed yesterday she has lots of scars quite high on her thighs on the front, some look very recent and raw. I cannot imagine how they can be accidental they look very much self inflicted to me. Her skirt moved up when she sat down and she quickly pulled it down to hide them. I don't think she realised I saw them.
I haven't mentioned it to her, i dont know if i should, i dont know her family or any of her friends, she is on a training placement from a college. I am not really concerned about her work or risks to others I am just worried about her. Although we work with children so I dont know if this would be a concern for a parent.

I dont want to inform the college in case it causes her any problems with them.
I dont know if i have a duty of care as an employer to do something.
really not sure what to do if anything, would appreciate any advice.

It's tricky! Depending on your relationship with the girl depends weather u could bring it up. Maybe let her know your there if she needs to discuss anything job related or otherwise.

Personally if someone had questioned me at college About SH I'd prob have tried to make excuses or make up other reasons I.e got attacked by the cat (sound silly I know) But deep down be great full someone was there if I needed to talk.

Prob not much help, sorry but hope she can open up to you x

I would post this on the work board, "employment issues".
