I ran out. 2 days ago, my prescription will be ready on Thursday but I AM a gibbering, weeping wreck! Is that normal?

I reduced the dose to 10mg a few months ago because I needed to lose weight and I was fed up with having the libido of an ice cube. Maybe it means I am treading a fine line.

Orm I'm sorry you're suffering! The pharmacy should be able to issue you an extra week on the basis of your last prescription if you are just waiting for a new one from the surgery, can be very handy to prevent such situations.

Anyway that isn't very helpful to you now.

DH is on these, and his GP has warned him about side effects when he comes off them (eventually) I don't know what specifically, sorry. Hope you are ok.

Sympathy and hand holding here too. As previous poster says, if you go to your regular chemist they will give you a week's worth to tide you over.

OrmirianResurgam · 18/06/2013 21:39

Thank you

i will ask at the chemist.

Just so shocked that the symptoms have hit so hard.

If I don't take mine, I can feel myself turn Into a nut within hours!! No joke... I feel your pain. Chin up :)

Have you thought of trying something else ? I was on it a short time - took me a few months to get used to it, then I felt like a zombie & it took me weeks with the electric shock sensations to go....what a waste of time Confused

I was advised to try a supplement called 5 HTP (basically delivers seratonin to the brain) & it was marvellous. You can buy from holland & Barrett & 3 pills at bedtime let me see the wood from the trees..the fog lifted.

I still have them in the drawer, this is a few years ago now, but they where so much better than the AD's.

I don't know willowisp. I have been a depressive for many years now - only diagnosed after my DD was born 14 years ago but I am fairly sure it was present to a certain extent since my teens. I am reluctant to mess about with it. I had suicidal ideation 18m ago after I took myself of cit 6 m before - got through the withdrawal symptoms and thought I was hunkydory. Stood on a m-way bridge for hours and tried to pluck up courage to step off. Terrifying. So I am reluctant to stop them and try anything new. I'd love to - they have side-effects I could do without but still being alive is quite a positive Wink

Thanks nannybun - being more coherent today. Knowing why it's happening helps to make it easier.

I'm
On 10 mg personally I don't think it's enough I take it at night but I'm all itchy now like I need more :-/ but I don't wanna up it cause weight gain etc

OrmirianResurgam · 19/06/2013 14:09

lonelybunny - I am definitely a bit borderline on 10mg. I was on 20 but my GP agreed it might be a good idea to try the lower dose and see how it went. I can feel the walls closing in at times on this dose but by and large I can keep them at bay. Winter is worse for me so I might have to reconsider nearer the time

Sorry for your situations...

My GP had me in 40....I, apparently, was like the walking dead.

You can take the 5 HTP if your off the AD's but mustn't take them together.

I don't know any of your previous circumstances but really do believe the only way to recover is therapy. Talking it out with a qualified professional - not this CBT stuff, a proper psychologist. Dr's, unless you are extremely lucky, are useless.

I did schema based therapy & it's very powerful. I still have my days, but if it's really bad, out come the 5 HTP's.

I'm very anti AD's because they just mask everything.

Hope this opinion is helpful Smile

Hi willow - your opinion is helpful. Beleive me I have tried other things over the years but always came running back to ADs in terror! I have never tried any serious therapy - have had IC for a while last year when H had an affair to try to get my self-confidence off the floor and basically stop crying! it helped but I guess that isn't what you are talking about? Wouldn't really know where to start.

You can start by believing you deserve to feel good about life & either make an appointment with the dr for a recommendation or you can do a search for clinical psychologists. You're looking around £100 + an hr.

You can pm me of you like - I might be able to help with recommendations. The counsellors I saw didn't have a clue & wanted me to accept stuff - rarely a good thing.

I've sobbed my heart out & giggled manically in the chair, wondering I'd they might lock me away...They didn't though & I always felt better afterwards.

Ouch!!! How many session do you tend to need?

OP posts:
willowisp · 20/06/2013 10:42

depends on your problems Wink

I had 2 sessions which were very intense & I'm still gaining benefit from them now..3/4 years later. I also had some private health care sessions which were pants. Obviously I would benefit from more, especially if I felt bogged down, but I'm a great one for talking & talking honestly about painful things. I look back & think WTF did I allow myself to be treated like that & now I know where it stems from, I can make sure I don't go that route again...or I can see it happening & avoid. Life traps are what they are called in the therapy I used.

I'm not a therapist or anything, I just hate that people would experience what I did when it's not necessary - therapy good, drugs bad.
