Anxiety in teens reading material to help

Can anyone recommend a good book to help my teen understand and overcome anxiety. There is some connection with PMT and exams, but it seems to be constant rather than coming and going depending on situations.

Sorry to hear this, I have a teen too and it can be a very stressful time with exams, but particularly worrying if she is like it constantly.

DD (17) and I have read the Paul McKenna book 'I can make you happy' which was full of simple techniques to overcome negative thoughts, together with lots of exercises to try. There was a CD at the back where he explained everything very clearly. The tone wasn't patronising but just constructive and helpful. This one might not be the best one for your DD, but I have just checked on amazon and he has also written one entitled 'Control Stress: Stop worrying and feel good now' which may be more suitable. On amazon you can have a virtual 'look inside' so you can see if it is the sort of thing you are looking for.

I borrowed my book from the library so there may be some other titles there.

Good luck, hope that helps a little.

YoungMinds can be helpful for teens and parents.

DS2 is prone to anxiety & panic attacks, especially around exam times.
His college has been really supportive but I was shocked at how common it is amongst teenagers. I do think the hormone surges play a part.

Sorry to hear this is happening, I've read a few 'self-help' books by Dorothy Rowe which helped me to understand a few things about how I was feeling a few years ago.

Can I ask what else she's doing to cope? What does she want to achieve? Strategies for dealing with the feelings, an understanding of the causes, treatment options?

Thanks everyone - especially re DD (17)'s experience. I bought Paul McKenna Control Stress this weekend with the CD and it looks really good. Daughter is doing a little exercise every day, trying to rest, read and watch films, healthy diet, to try to counteract the stress. She wants to do well, but I think the sustained stress of the AS levels followed by A2s is difficult. Her goal at the moment is to go to university. Last exam this week, so let's hope she feels better afterwards.

I just checked out Dorothy Rowe and realised I'd read Raising Happy Children. Her work looks really interesting - so thanks too for that recommendation. Young Minds too looks good. Thanks everyone. Good to know others are there, and coping!
