go back to the doctors - you would expect the worst of the side effects to be gone after about a fortnight, whilst your body takes time to adjust to them.

kellyuk · 07/05/2006 12:16

been to the doctors already they just said that it was to early to up my meds to 40mg coz of the side effects but she said if they dont wrok in the nxt two weeks then she will up them then hope they work soon coz im going to go crazy

Hiya
Yea, Im going through PND, on anti-d's. Seems like im on the mend, then something happens, and it feels like ive gone backwards.
Ive had panic attacks in the past, hopefully seem to be over that. But i do suffer with IBS (have done for years), and thats an awful side effect, as mines only caused by emotion!

pepperpots · 07/05/2006 15:14

Hi everyone, I have recently lost a brother-in-law when he commited suicide. I know he was on anti-depressants. They seem to have a lot of side effects and the problem is still there when you come off them. You are just in oblivion - in a world of your own. I think these things are evil and are just there to make money for the drug companies. Apparently worldwide, more money is spent on drugs than on food. That's why they spend so much time invalidating the effectiveness of vitamins and minerals, as they are a better alternative to these harmful drugs. Now my sister-in-law is on Floxtine. I am going to try but I know it is going to be hard. She is going through a very hard time having lost a husband; and their daughter recently had her 4th birthday with no daddy to see it. What I would say to anyone on these drugs is you need to look at what is making you feel so depressed that you have to resort to these desperate measures; after all you are trying to solve a spiritual problem by physical means. All the "chemical imbalance in the brain" stuff is a load of rubbish -why would adding MORE chemicals redress an "imbalance?". Some people think it is just a matter of finding the right drug that "suits them". I would say that taking some vitamins, getting plenty of excercise, good diet and a circle of good friends to share your troubles with are the best therapy you could have. I am reading a book called the miricle of fasting - which is not just about fasting - it's about real health and following nature's laws. Nature will always have the last laugh when you try to outsmart it. If this helps one person to get off these terrible things then I will be very happy. We have 2 kids and I would never let anyone give them drugs to make them more "agreeable". Why do you think all these school shootings happen in the US? I hope this helps. I know I am not alone in my opinion of these drugs, but our voices are not being heard.

Colin

chocolatekimmy · 25/05/2007 23:22

Colpro are you for real?

'Anti depressants - a resort to desperate measures - chemical imbalance - load of rubbish'

Seriously that is a deeply concerning and disturbing post!

VeniVidiVickiQV · 25/05/2007 23:31

Good lord.

It seems you dont have the first clue about depression, how anti-depressants work, and the different generations of anti-depressants.

I understand you have been through a distressing time, but, to be perfectly honest, that makes me think your opinion is incredibly coloured by these traumas in your life.

One of the main reasons so many shootings happen in the US is because the normality for families to own weapons, and the ease with which people can buy guns.

Mental illness happens for a number of reasons, some "spiritual", and some medical.

There isnt a one-size fits all cure for depression, and I think you need to seriously reconsider posting ill-founded, factually incorrect posts on the WWW.

You arent helping your cause at all.

misdee · 25/05/2007 23:32

colpro

i'm all for using natural things and agree that going for walks, and boosting yourself up is good for most people, but sometimes you need that little extra to get you out of the hole. i took vitamins, had good circle of friends, was out every day, ate well and still had PND and was on medication for it. it helped. then went onto st johns wort for a while after perscribed medication.

you post is very one sided.

how about supporting your sister in law alongside her medication?

harrisey · 25/05/2007 23:32

As a sufferer of serious depression, postnatal and otherwise, I am seriously disturbed by this post, adn have reported it.

This is one screwed up person who needs professional help, please dont feed it!!!

divastrop · 25/05/2007 23:34

this poster has posted the same thing on a few threads it seems.

harrisey · 25/05/2007 23:35

This peron only has 6 messages, all on this topic, please dont make a deal out of this, it is obvios they have a real greif isue and need help that MN cannot give.

lou33 · 25/05/2007 23:38

when did tom cruise change his name to colin?

MrsJohnCusack · 25/05/2007 23:45

is Colpro Tom Cruise?

anyhow tis bollocks
Am married to someone who cannot function properly without ADs and the conclusion the docs have come to is that he really does just have a chemical imbalance in his brain. Suggesting that we should have just tried some vitamins and made sure he had some mates & some exercise is insulting frankly.

ADs AREN'T for everyone and I understand that there is a concern that they're sometime overprescribed - also people do need other help, it's no good just giving them pills and sending them off. And some ADs - e.g. seroxat - have been shown to be problematic. But posting scaremongering nonsense on a thread where someone is looking for some support is not helpful.

mozhe · 25/05/2007 23:47

It is a load of dangerous gobbildigook......kellyuk, go back to your GP/prescribing doctor and ask for extra support, they will be able to put you in touch with additional help. And fgs don't listen to people like this colpro character. I am going to ask for his post to be deleted.

lou33 · 25/05/2007 23:55

i wa referring to tom cruise, the real one and his assumption that anto depressants are wrong

it reminded me of his tirade against brook shields

total bullshit as well

MrsJohnCusack · 25/05/2007 23:55

oh sorry took me ages to type that

yes not feeding the troll prob a good idea

45daysincaptivity · 25/05/2007 23:58

Mrs JohnCusak
Totally agree - He's a Sci.

Spider · 26/05/2007 00:02

I can see this will be a very unpopular post, but I'm not sure why you're all rounding on colpro. He's raising some very valid points IMO which are rarely aired.
There are as many different ways of dealing with depression as their are people looking for them.

If, as he says, he has personal and tragic interest in this matter, it's hardly surprising he'll be forthright in spreading his view. No-one's forcing anyone to agree with him.

lou33 · 26/05/2007 00:08

noone is but he should have a little bit more comapssion for people who feel bad enough to post asking for help, and not say , for example, that a chemical imbalance is rubbish and that in effect people who take them are idiots

i mean thats a great way to make someone feel better about themselves isnt it!
