I'm a carer and I have started going to an elderly client who suffers from schizophrenia.

She is a lovely lady but she sees people in her house all the time who are not there. I've no knowledge or experience of schophrenia- is it best to go along with it or to tell her they aren't real? She isn't distressed by these people, she finds them entertaining or sometimes puzzling.

Is she taking her medication? If so she shouldn't be seeing these people. Her medication may need changing. My brother has schizophrenia and these sorts of things only happen when he is unwell (if he comes off his meds or they need altering).

Could you ask your supervisor to speak to her family/SS/Medical team about her symptoms?

Interesting, thank you.

I will let the office know that this may be significant.
