Repetitive phrases - why do I do it?

I've been suffering some sort of (relatively) mild anxiety/depression for the last 6 months or so. Possibly triggered by relationship problems, I don't know. I don't feel it's bad enough for ADs but I wondered if anyone had experienced similar to me: when I get very stressed with the DCs (only with them; it's not happened with anyone else because I manage to control myself otherwise they would think I was crazy) I occasionally start repeating the same thing I've said to them over and over and over again. Something random like: "Just get your shoes on.Just get your shoes on.Just get your shoes on.Just get your shoes on.Just get your shoes on.Just get your shoes on.Just get your shoes on.Just get your shoes on.Just get your shoes on.Just get your shoes on.Just get your shoes on.Just get your shoes on." I am super-stressed when I do this and often rushing to get out of the door with the DC. Of course, me doing this worries and upsets them Sad. I also "SSSSHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!" them really melodramatically/over-the-top, which is something my mother does too, if there is a loud noise that upsets her. I can keep the "SHH" going really loudly until I'm out of breath. Frightening the DC again. They're going to grow up remembering my ridiculous behaviour unless I can control it. I feel like I must be going a bit psychotic or something.

Anyone with any thoughts?

Dont have any experience of this at all, but am slightly bumping this for you.
I would advise you to see your GP to discuss it with him.
The children are getting upset so a trip to the GP would be best imo.

Thank, amillion. God, is there noone who has experienced this? I'm starting to feel like some fucking psychotic now.

You have said that you are anxious, depressed and starting to feel psychotic. You must go to the GP. Get treatment before it gets worse. There is no shame in getting help. IME when you Start ADS you can feel a little worse before you feel better so don't let yourself sink any further.

Catsdontcare · 10/01/2013 09:34

Please go see your gp, you say it's not bad enough yet but how bad do you want to feel? Your upset and you feel you are upsetting your children. My biggest regret was waiting so long to go to my gp. I couldn't believe I'd let myself feel so awful for so long because I didn't think I was I'll enough.

Maybe repetition is your way to deal a really stressful situation. Sounds odd though. Maybe go and ask your gp.

I have heard that ADs make you feel numb, dead, stultified, flat. I'm terrified of feeling like that. It seems to be such a gamble, taking ADs. From what I can gather, you might feel better; you might feel 3 times worse.

Antidepressants do NOT make the majority of people feel "numb, dead, stultified, flat". I say that as a healthcare professional. Some of the older drugs and antipsychotic drugs can do that but not modern antidepressants.
You do realise a huge proportion of the people you already know are on them? The bus driver/checkout person/your GP/your best mate/celebrity you fancy are probably taking them!

I was interviewing someone a few months ago who became emotional in their interview and confessed that they took antidepressants and hoped it wouldn't go against her. I was laughing to myself, little known to her the three people on the interview panel were on them!

Go back to your doctor, please.

sub I also do the repetition thing but mine tends to happen during an anxiety/panic attack and it's always me saying negative thing about myself. I suffer from MH issues though & take AD's. I don't know y I do it maybe it is a trigger bought on by stressful situation (seems like a logical answer/explanation).

your not alone with this well at least there is one more psychotic person out there like you :)

like the others have said please go back to ur G.P & talk it through. AD's do help so don't rule them out.

Totally agree with Merlottis, "antidepressants do NOT make the majority of people feel "numb, dead, stultified, flat".
There is something called Echolalia that might be of interest???
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Echolalia
Equally, a good friend of mine used to repeat the last sentence people said. He wasn't suffering from a MH condition but was an accountant though Grin.

Hmm this sounds to me like it is your anxiety taking over as you say it happens when you are stressed - do you continue saying "get your shoes on" once they are on, or do you keep saying it because they haven't found them ,got them on or what. It doesn't sound to me like you are "going a bit psychotic" - pyschosis means that you are out of touch with reality.

Sounds like you have depression and anxiety and you need to see the GP. I am wondering why you don't feel "it's not bad enough for ADs. Go see your GP and tell him/her of what symptoms you are having, and they can decide whether your depression/anxiety needs medication. It is quite likely that you have a reactive depression, triggered as you say by your relationship problems.
