It's in the media all the time and I suffer greatly and not even all my family know as I'm scared they will be afraid of me. I certainly never tell friends because I think they will be scared to leave their children near me. So do people think I'm weird and would you be scared of me?

I've suffered since I was 13 and only ever hurt myself, but I've learnt to hide it so people don't think I'm going to suddenly axe murder them. Sometimes its hard to ignore the voices and I end up talking to them and people move away like I'm contagious so I don't go out much and never if I'm having a day when my psychosis is bad.I don't have any real friends because I'm so scared they will be afraid of me.

Totally agree, it's scary behaviour that would frighten me not a scary label. Cliche I know, but some of my best friends and colleagues have experienced psychosis.

Have a good Christmas x

My beloved Nan suffered from paranoid schizophrenia and she never scared me.

I have had periods of really intense paranoia and anxiety myself (not sure it could be termed psychosis but I was obviously quite unwell).

So you wouldn't scare me. Grin

I have met a lot of people with mh difficulties through my work and some of the behaviour was really very odd to witness. After my problems I was able to relate to it so much better. It's still heartbreaking to see though, mental illness is pretty cruel.

I have BPD, so no. I do understand what you mean though. All the negative press around personality disorders always makes me more concerned about what people will think.

Have found the best policy is honesty. I'd rather know if people can't cope with it before I get attached to them.

OP, I'm a bit concerned that your worry about other people's reactions is causing you to isolate yourself when you're feeling less well. Do you have much RL support?

My sister has psychosis and me and my mum have bipolar. I'm not scared of you, you sound lovely Smile

3b1g I do have rl support my partner supports me in the evening and my mum in the day she is coming shopping with me today in fact. I have a sister who is aware but she's to young to understand fully I also have two uncles who know but I don't see them much one of which has paranoid schizophrenia.

My nan knows but is not supportive not that she is nasty its just the uncle with paranoid schizophrenia is actually a great uncle and my nan witnessed him being taken into care and given horrid treatments so she thinks I should not speak to any doctors in case I am sectioned and hide it.

It doesn't scare me, but I'm another with BPD so it's not entirely unfamiliar. Aggressive/threatening behaviour can scare me, but that isn't necessarily mental health related at all! There is so much stigma around though, so I can understand why you feel concerned.

People with psychosis don't scare me. What scares me is the pressure many people with psychosis feel to keep their voices and experiences hidden.
