How did you know if it was PND or just depression?

Just that really? I have suffered in the past due to PTSD and had a PTSD trigger last weekend, I have realised that these past few weeks I've really not been on top form mentally and think it's just the depression surfacing a little.. I'm convinced it's not PND as I love my daughter and it didn't crop up straight away she was born - just these past few weeks...

Will people just say I have PND or will it be depression related to my PTSD?

Pnd does not mean you couldn't bond with your baby its just that. during the months just after giving birth your hormones are all over the place and this makes depression more likely iyswim. It is just like normal depression but as its in the post natal period which is up to a year its called pnd it also is called pnd as that means it was caused by hormonal changes after birth and in most cases won't happen outside a post natal period ( except people susceptible to depression have even more risk of pnd and have it at other times as well)

If your baby is under 1 it will be classed as pnd I hope this helps you understand better.

I'm not sure it matters seeing as no-one really knows how and why depression happens......I had PND twice - the 2nd time being worst but it wasn't picked up on until I got seriously bad when my son was 11 months old - my anxiety was just getting worse and worse. Regardless of how much you love your daughter it can still be PND - it can be cruel! I took anti-ds for 6 years and eventually came off them and with the help of counselling have been off them for around 4 years!! If you need help then you need help regardless of what caused it. I would make a GP appointment for a chat about your options! Good luck! Things will get better!

If you're suffering with depression in the 12 months following childbirth it's classed as post natal depression. That's all it is - depression in the post natal period.
